new vitamin
I'm not taking Fusion, but just had a look at the nutrition label. The only thing that concerns me is that it doesn't state the form the nutrients come in. This isn't as critical for banders, but anyone with a malabsorptive procedure should know that certain forms are no longer appropriately absorbed:
1. Calcium -- must be citrate or gluconate not carbonate
2. B12 -- must be sublingual because there is no longer any Intrinsic Factor in the gut for absorption
3. D -- should be D3 (cholecalciferol) not D2 (ergocalciferol)
4. A -- should be Retinol or Retinyl Palmitate, not Betacaroten because we don't absorb enough fat to convert Betacarotene to usable Retonol
5. Magnesium -- should be citrate or gluconate not carbonate
Also, those who don't need iron should be careful with this brand, because it does contain iron. Those who do need iron, be warned that the calcium in this supplement will interfere with the iron absorption. It's always better to take iron (with vitamin C) separate from all other supplements, including fiber, and calcium-containing foods like milk.
They do seem a bit expensive, especially considering you have to take 4 a day and you might still need to take a few others extra depending on your particular lab results. I use Bariatric Advantage for my main vitamin, but still have to take 3 or 4 others. But I think the BA vits are a bit steep, and it looks like the Fusion ends up costing even more than that.
