Madigan scheduling question

I have jumped through all my hoops! My psych eval came back last week. Friday I had my all my pre-op bloodwork done. Monday I had my EKG and all my current medications converted over to bariatric-friendly equivalents and my PCM, caseworker, and Psychologist have all released me as "good-to-go". My second appointment with Dr. Sebesta will be May 9th. (First was on March 25th where we worked out which surgery, VSG, and what pre-op tests he wanted done) So my question....once you were cleared and had your final appointment with the surgeon at Madigan, how soon after was your surgery scheduled for? Am I being totally unrealistic to think that it could happen between the 15th-21st? My DH is deployed and we have 4 kiddos. Three of my kids are special needs, and during that particular timeframe I will have lots of help around. It would just be awesome to have one less thing to worry about. Am I just dreaming?

Sorry to say this but unless you are on the list to be called for a cancellation, and they have one, you aren't gonna get in by then.  The usual wait is 1-3 months and Dr Sebesta is very popular.  They fit you in according to available space left over and you can get cancelled.  Mine was reschedueled once. On another note, if you kids are hard to care for maybe this will allow you to arrange for some extra help.  I would have needed it for around 10 days.  You will be on lifting restriction for 6 weeks also. If you have any questions ask away, lots of us had surgery at Madigan.

I just re-read your question.  Maybe you should call there, I only did the blood work and EKG just  before my surgery.  Some of the bloodwork is only good for a week.

Thanks for your reply Jillian. I am going through Naval Hospital Bremerton and I had to have the EKG and bloodwork done and and results evaluated by my PCM before I could be "released" to Madigan to schedule my surgery. On my paperwork it says that the EKG and bloodwork have to be done within 30 days of surgery and to do them when directed to do so by my caseworker. She sent me for them for the bloodwork on Friday and the EKG on Monday. From the sounds of the wait time, I will probably have to repeat them at a later date. Thanks for the heads up on the wait time. I guess I will find out more when I go on the 9th.

Hi, I also had Dr .Sebesta, I was very happy with him....like JIllian said ,it will depend on their schedule...I saw him and was scheduled a month out then they changed it and pushed me back 10 days....I finished all my stuff around the middle of Feb... I'm sure it will all go well.....I think I had good care at Madigan....I know some people don't agree....good luck..  Bev

Hi there maybe Cindy will come on in a couple days.  She recently had her surgery at madigan through the navel hosp.  She will probably be able to help you more.   Glad to get to know you!  Let us know when you have a date so we can move on down that losers bench!!

Hi There, I just had my surgery 3 weeks ago and I too went thru Brem. Nav. Hosp. I had all my labs done thru Brem. and still had to do them again at Madigan. when I had my pre-op thru Mad. I had to do EKG, and labs, along with meeting Anest. to talk about howthey were gonna put me out. It was about 8 days from Mad. pre-op to surgery. Do you go to the Support group meetings At Brem.? I will be there I hope on Tues.  Good Luck and keep us posted as to how your moving along.

I am also going through Bremerton. I plan on getting my labs done tomorrow morning and  I have my physical scheduled for Wednesday. Hopefully my psyc. eval comes in the first part of the week. I have been going to the support group at Brem for the last few months. I hope to hve surgery sometime this month or next. My husband shipped out yesterday for 2 months and it will be way easier on me if he's not around. lisa
