Sleepwear for hospital stay

Ok I am having the worst time trying to figure out or rather find something to take with me to the hospital.  I bought a waltz (long skirt-not to the floor) length zip all the way up the front robe for walking the halls.  My problem is, what to have under it.  I have a bunch of sleep pants that are all different sizes, so some are pretty baggy, but I'm thinking that wouldn't be good to wear right after surgery?  The tops I usually wear with those sleep pants are just big baggy tshirts, but again, afraid that won't quite work.  Any ideas other than the old standard hosptial gown?

Hi Shelley~ I was in the Hosital 3 days, and of that I had a cathider (spell) in for almost 2 days...I am the same as you..whatever for sleeping. I went and got a extra big past the knees sleep shirt (Catherines) and when I say big I mean big. I was wearing 3X and bought 5X for comfort... Collette

Hi, Shelley - I say whatever you'd be most comfortable in.  You might also ask the dr. if you will have a catheter as I did not.  I just took a pair of PJ's (pants and loose top) and a robe and was fine.  I think it also depends if your surgery will be laparoscopic or open.  With open you would probably prefer a long night shirt as opposed to pants...  Are you getting really excited?!?!  Your day is getting so close!!

I have an ongoing list of things to ask him on my preop visit, and that is one of them, to see if we have one and for how long.  When I had my csections they didn't put them in right and they hurt so bad.  How can anyone have 2 surgeries almost 4  years apart, and a whole different nursing staff and get it done wrong twice?  lol  I am very excited, along with all the other emotions of course AND I'm excited to get to meet you too!

RNY on 02/13/08 with
Dr Sebesta said yes cath and for 24 hrs.  They put it in once you are out though, and I fully intend that mine will be out sooner than that!   I imagine that the protocol is pretty much the same for everyone I am not sure though.

Grr I hate those things, but I guess 24 hours isn't too bad, just a pain in the butt to walk around with it.  But glad they put it in once they knock you out, maybe 3rd times a charm and this time it will be in correctly and I wont feel it.

Ouch!  The 3rd time's gotta be the charm!!!  I had one with my c-section, too, but fortunately no problems.  Didn't have one for the RNY - thank goodness!!!  Looking forward to meeting you, too!

My Medial RNY was open . I took jammies , but wore my hopital gown & an extra one as a robe . It was better than getting my jammies icky . I wore my own home . Luckily , Dr. Oh doesn't seem to like to use cathetors much , as I didn't have one . I hurt so bad after having one for my hysterectomy , several years ago . Take something easy to get on & off . I had my pre-op on Monday, and the nurse told me that she reccomends some comfy top & bottoms pj's. She said it would be easy for me just to lift up my shirt so they can look at my stomach rather than lifting up a nightgown. And of course she said a robe would be nice for walking the hallways. Hope this helps!
