My Decision
Hello Everyone-
Thank you so much for warm welcomes. I am almost ready to make a phone call for an appointment to see the doctor on getting the surgery done. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired in my fat body.
Last night I made the decide to call and leave a message for an appointment to come in and talk to the doctor about the surgery.
My weight started coming on in 1986 after my dad passed away. On June 11th, 2006 my step dad passed away and I put on another 70 lbs. I have been overweight for 22 years. I am 36 years old and I feel like I lost out on half of my life.
So I am ready to make a change in my life and to be able to do the things that I missed out on.
I am looking for some new friends that been through the surgery. I am looking for support and for some new friends to take me under there wing. Thank you for taking the time to read my note.
Have a great and happy day.
Kathleen

WOW! That was fast!.. I called the hospital last night to leave a message for someone to call me back. I was told that it might be a week before someone would call me back. They called back just now and took an intake over the phone. I will have to wait for two months before I can get an appointment to come in and talk to the doctor. So now I am on my way to a brand new me!
Thanks so much for your support-

Welcome, Kathleen!! You've taken a big step already toward a healthier you... That's great that UW got back to you so quickly - but too bad it will be a couple months before you can see the dr. But that will give you time to do more research and be really ready to talk to the dr. with questions ready to go! You'll find lots of friends and support on this site - don't hesitate to ask questions or whatever... Just so you know, I had the gastric bypass surgery on 12/6 and am doing great! Take care and keep in touch.
Welcome and good luck to you.
I can tell you from personal experience, that tramatic events - like deaths - are triggers for emotional eating. I know, I have been there.
Prior to my weight loss surgery, the last time I dieted down (yes, I successfully dieted down several times) was in 1998-1999. Byt 1999 was "the year of the deaths." The year started with the death of my very good friends son in early January. Then it continued with my Grandfather's death, my close cousin's stepfather's death, my 14-year-old daughter's father's death (and I of course had to tell her about the death), my sister's father-in-law's death and then my Grandmother's death.
Needless to say, i gained every pound plus several back in very short order.
To compare, since my surgery and total weight loss - my very beloved brother died very unexpected. The death was no easier, but i did not gain weight.
Weight loss surgery, whether the band, RNY or one of the other options, does not solve emotional eating, but it allows you to control it.
Good luck. And I am so sorry for your losses.
Vicki
