How long before you were able to go back to work after lap band?

I am in the early research stage and I am seriously considering the lap band. I would like to know if anyone had the lap band surgery and was able to go back to work after one week? I work at a school and if I need more than a week off for recovery, I will have to wait until July for my surgery- I really do not want to wait that long! My first appointment with Dr Chebli is December 13th and I am so excited to start my journey

After a week you shouldn't have too much of a problem -- unless you have complications from surgery. The bigger factors aren't really the pain they're the energy level (you're not eating a lot and you're still healing so you really may feel that your energy is zapped) and if you're on narcotic pain medicine. If you've graduated to tylenol products, you should be ok -- especially if you're comfortable getting in your proper nutrition (don't expect to meet your protein requirements right out of surgery -- it took me about a month to get there) or all of your water in. But, obviously, it is important to get as much in as possible. Good luck! Lori

First, congrats on starting this journey! Second, consider what kind of job you have when figuring out how much time you'll need to take off. E.g., a daycare worker vs. somebody with a desk job. Like Lori said above, it depends on your individual energy level ... but I'd also say how much energy you need for the job! Good luck and congrats! Kate

Thanks Kate! I am so excited about 07. I do have a desk job but at times it can be very busy. I have my first appointment with Dr. Chebli next week so maybe I will get some of my questions answered. I love this website, you guys are so helpful and generous with your imput. -Rachael

Hey Rachael, Not only was I back to work, but I am an ER nurse, so I was lifting patients and running around on 12hr night shifts. The first 2-3 days after surgery I thought I was in trouble but once I was up and around ( I had my surgery in Mexico, had to fly back then drive 3 hrs) I was actually better. I didn't have any problems with energy, I actually felt better.

Hi Joy, thanks for the reply. So, you were back to work in a week? Thanks for the info, I can't believe that you actually felt better so soon afterwards. That is very encouraging.
