Any one else have insurance problems?

My book of benifits through bcbc of georgia showed that WLS was covered I went through all of the pre op appointments quit smoking and all. My doctor's office called the insurance co to get a address to send the approval letter and they were told there was an exclusion on my plan and WLS was not covered. After everything I've been through they were now telling me no. My benifit book on line for 2006 still had not been updated at that point so it still had WlS as a covered service. It's has now been updated and Wls has been taked off (overnight). I don have copies of what was on there and a saved book to my computer with all of the dates. Has anyone been through anything like this? Any advise?

Unfortunately insurance has the option of changing your benefits at renewal time. I don't know that there is much you can do about it. If you didn't have your procedure done prior to the effective date of the change in policy they will not cover it. Even if you had approval prior to the change if you didn't actually have the procedure done there isn't really anything you can do. I would call your insurance company and get the exact date of the policy change and talk to the HR folks and see when your policy renewal date is. If they don't match then you might get lucky. But if your company's renewal date just happened recently then unfortunately you're probably out of luck. This probably isn't the answer you wanted but I wouldn't give up quite yet. Good Luck!!! Thanks for the reply. My policy was changed on dec 31 2005 they just never updated or provided us with current benifit books. my HR dept has been everything but helpful although they admit to reading what I did they do not stand behind me at all, The've even asked if I've tried other was to lose weight! I've asked them to condsider adding it to the plan next year and they say no way it's to risky and the "trend" is that most policys will not cover it anymore.
