I'm home

Well I had surgery on July 6th and can honestly say it was the worst thing I have gone through. My daughter stayed at the hospital with me 3 nights. I went home on Sunday night and on Tuesday morning at 2:30 I woke up throwing up blood, so ended back in the hospital in Intensive care for 3 more days. I came home again last Thursday and as of today think I am finally on the mend. I have been able to sleep finally in a bed as of two nights ago. My worst problem is what to fix as I am supposed to have pureed for 8 weeks and I love chicken but don't like it when it is pureed. My fovorite is soft boiled eggs or cream of wheat for breakfast and tomato soup for lunch. Dinner is hard. These things are going to get pretty boring after 8 weeks. Also I am going on a cruise in 2 and a half weeks. Not good planning, but I think I will do okay, I will take my magic bullet. Well I know in about 3 or 4 months I will say this is the best think I did, but the last week or so, I was really saying "What have I done?" Thanks for everyones prayers. Marcia

That's terrible Marcia . What caused the bleeding ? I'm glad you're getting better . I hate to say it , but I wonder if you should go on a cruise so soon after surgery , especially when you've had complications . I really don't want to rain on your parade . I'm just concerned is all . I hope that you will mend quickly from here on out . Kathy

They think where the incision was it formed a clot that broke loose and I threw it up. I was in intensive care 3 days where they monitored my blood every 6 hours (my hands and arm are full of bruises) to make sure there was no more bleeding. I am feeling a lot better now and I had my appointment with Dr. Weber yesterday where he took out the staples and he said I should be fine to go on the cruise. Thanks of your reply. Marcia

It's good to hear from you Marcia! It sounds like you are on the mend finally. Sorry to hear about your complication. Hopefully that is the only one you will have and now you can look forward to your journey! We all felt the same way in the beginning, "what have I done?" I know I did for about the first 2 months. I mourned the food I couldn't eat. But now, almost a year later, I can eat alot more things than I thought I would be able to. It DOES get better! I promise! Take care and keep us posted. Lori

Hi Marcia: I'm so sorry you've gone through such a hard time. You didn't mention what type of surgery you had, was it RNY or LabBand? Our son had RNY last October, horrible first month, wonderful now, he wouldn't change anything. I was banded a month ago, no problems, just some discomfort. Just a suggestion for your cruise, have your doctor give you a prescription for a patch for sea sickness, you don't want to start throwing up on your cruise and creating complications with your surgery. I'll pray for your continued healing and the better health you'll have with your new life and weightloss. Blessings, Nancy B., Birch Bay, WA Banded 6/15/06 and loving it!!!!!

Marcia, so good to hear that you are home! but oh my, you have really gone through some difficult things. YOu have been in my thoughs and prayers. I am so glad that your daughter was there to be with you. You might want to try cream of chicken soup strained so there are no chicken peices, make it with enriched milk for a good source of protien. Be sure to tell your cruise food service about your specail diet and they will be so helpful - I am sure of it! Hugs, Pam
