I am 34 years old, scheduled for laparoscopic gastric bypass with Forgione/Spaulding July 30th. My first appointment with them was Dec. 6, 2007. Just do all your "homework" that they ask you to do and keep the process moving along-and keep on top of your insurance company! I have told my employer I will be out of work 4 weeks, but hope to be back in 3 weeks-we'll see! Good luck and I hope to chat with you more! Becky

Topic: RE: Do YOU want to Enlist but b/c of WLS you can't?

It has nothing to do with training but everything to do with things such as....deployments to third world counties and the fact tha you could be in a position where water/liquids are scarce and the fact that MRE's are VERY high in cals and carbs and are not healthy to us in any way shape or form. This has nothing to do with how little or how much anyone eats, its more about each individuals well being. On deployments you could end up in a position where you do not any of your vitamins or supplements, not every sitution in a deployment is optimal. There for the military does not want to take ANY chances on jepordizing your life.

Good luck!

MOM

Thanks Joanne, October-July isn't a bad wait. I was thinking 18 months. I just turned 38 and would like to have bypass surgery done before I turn 40.  I know a couple of people that have gone to Laurie and had great success. Good luck on your surgery next week. Please post and let me know how your feeling. How long are you planning on being out of work? Kathy

Hi Kathy and congratulations on taking the first step toward better health. Are you looking into bypass or lap band? I submitted my paperwork in Oct 07, had my first group orientation in Nov, and my first meeting with the doctors in Dec. The initial steps seemed to take forever but are worth the wait. I am on day 2 of my 10 day pre-op liquid diet and now it seems like the preparation time went really quickly. Keep us posted on your journey and all the best! Joanne

Hi, I'm so excited for  you. I called Dr. Spauldings office 2 weeks ago to get started in the process. They said they are running 3 weeks behind in getting the paperwork out. I'm so ready to get going with it. How long did it take from the time of your first appointment until you were scheduled for the surgery? I know there is a lot of testing before. Best of luck! Kathy

Hi, I'm Allee and I live in the northeast corner of the state.  I used DHMC for my surgery and I'm nearly 4 years out.  I'm so glad that I did this.  It has given me my life back and I'm back in the world....good luck...your date is coming up quickly!
