Does anyone know of a surgeon not over 2 hours from Rutland, VT that doesn't make their gastric by-pass patients lose weight or document weight loss attempts before they will perform surgery? Thanks for any help. JoAnn

Dr. Spaulding, in Burlington, does Gastric Bypass and has a great rep..that's who's doing my surgery. She doesn't require you to lose weight, but she does require you document previous weight loss attempts. The only other option is Dartmouth Hitch**** and they do require an initial weight loss. Hope this helps..... Teresa

As a former nurse who took care of Dr. Spaulding's patients, I beg to differ with what you've heard. All I'm going to tell you is that you'd better check with some of her former patients and ask them about their experiences! The one thing we have to remember about ALL the surgeons is that this is a risky procedure. The bigger you are pre-op, and the more health problems you have, the bigger your individual risk is. Putting a morbidly obese person under anesthesia is a huge risk in itself! Also, Dr. Spaulding does not do laprascopic, only open, so if you want to avoid a huge and painful incision, go to Dartmouth. And the wait time for her is over one year! I have been in the Dartmouth program for 7 months and got all the way to my surgeons appt to find out insurance will not cover it! So I'm off to Mexico for a Lap RNY. Dartmouth is a lot closer for you, and the hospital is fabulous. Their infection rates are low, the surgeons are very skilled. They require a 15 pound weight loss, you can do that! Put on some ankle weights or something! Wear your heaviest clothes for the weigh in! The Dartmouth program is much faster as well. So if you are truly ready for this, you can make it happen there quickly! Best of luck to you! Bonnie
