I am 11 years out. Over the last 6 years I have regained 60 pounds.
after the loss of my dad 6 years I didn't eat. It is just as bad as eating to much I have found it. Plus in the last 2 years I have had 3 surgeries 2 3 months apart. Last August I had my whole thyroid removed due to 4 goiters that were growing rapidly. I have Hashimoto's. For the first 6 months they had the hardest time regulating my dosage for my meds. However I have been stable for about 6 months now. But no matter what I do I am not able to loose any weight. What am I doing wrong? Is there a trick to it I am not sure about?
TheWombat,
Thank you for this very different information, and no hair loss for you at all! This really does show that we are all individuals and can experience different things. Good to know, and it looks like it didn't get serious with you. I am aware that dehydration can be very serious in any situation. I am getting close!

It has been quite some time since I have logged in. Today is my 8 year surgery anniversary. I have struggled with weight regain after a horrible car wreck almost two years ago. That event has taken me off the ice twice. The first time was right after. I sprained my MCL and a pretty bad shoulder injury. The shoulder didn't heal, so I needed surgery, which took me off ice again. The shoulder rehab has been slow, but movement and strength are slowly improving. I am working with my coach and husband/ice dance partner to regain my skills so we can hopefully compete this coming spring. I will try to check in more often now that I am working remotely again.
It has been a long time since I have been signed in too. I remember you. It is sad news about Dr. Klassen.
Here's the advice my dietician gave me. If you follow these three things, you WILL gain the weight you want, but the process is hard.
1. Your meals should be vegetables with a side of protein.
2. You need to exercise every day at least thirty mins (something to do with metabolism and heart disease).
3. Track what you eat either through an app or simply keep a physical log. I would show up with my eating habits to her and she would correct my mistakes.
I think that number 3 might need a dietician to help in extreme cases.
Trying to lose weight and change my lifestyle! My main goal is 220.
Sorry didn't respond sooner. The surgeon said to wait at least 6 months before drinking citric acid. Im allowed to drink decaf coffee without creamer, but milk is fine. I didnt add much Splenda to it because I can really taste the sweetness. I think drinking coffee will be once in a blue moon type thing. Strange how my taste buds have become so sensitive.
Hoping I don't have Hair loss after surgery! I have a list of "various remedies" should it occur... Nioxin is on the list!
My main side effect was that I would get tired and/or dehydrated easily. I felt great, and so I would forget that I had surgery recently, and would try to do too much. For example, I had no difficulty doing my regular job, but when I tried to give a presentation standing up, I got queasy and had to stop. (It wasn't nerves, I'm fine with public speaking.) Another time, I moved desks, and pushed my desk chair rapidly down a very long hall. By the time I reached my new desk, I was dehydrated and had to ask a colleague to bring me some water. Both of those incidents were about two months after surgery. It took about 4 months for the fatigue to go away completely.
I had no hair loss.
catwoman7, good to know it can happen with either surgery; I've focused so much lately on the sleeve that I hadn't even asked that about other surgeries. I'll have to look into reflux and ask that question in my last nutrition class that is coming up very soon.
I have a good feeling as I get closer to surgery (although still nervous in some ways), and much of the credit for that good feeling comes from having more details about what I might experience. All of you who are responding are really helping, likely more than you know. Thank you!
