Good morning! It?s been a long while since I posted in this community. So long I had to set up a new account because I forgot my user name and password.
I had a vsg in 2015 and over time I?ve lost 120 pounds. I went from a high of 302 to a low of 184. I?ve bounced around some, but I think that?s normal. I always know what to do to get back in control and have the willpower to do it. I can motivate to exercise and fast and eat healthy. Except right now, I?m dealing with the recent loss of my mom. She died 12/11/2020 and I was her primary caregiver so my life has drastically changed. She declined in health over 8-10 months after a stroke. I spent many hours helping her and sitting with her. I still have my Dad to care for so my job isn?t over. I just can?t control my eating. I k ow it?s grief, I?ve talked to my doctor about increasing my antidepressants and have regular appointments with my therapist. I?m bipolar 2 and I deal with low level depression most of the time anyway.
I?m looking for encouragement and advice.
Thank you for reading and any help or words will be appreciated!

It was right for me for several reasons, but mostly because I was a binge eater. I liked to eat until I felt nice and full, which usually was 2,000+ calories. I simply needed a smaller stomach, and since I never drank my calories, VSG was the right . I was in the "healthy/normal" BMI range less than a year after surgery.
if you have heartburn or GERD, go with RNY. Otherwise, it comes down to personal preference. You can find success stories with both surgeries on here - and also, failures with both. If you're committed, you can succeed with either surgery.
I had to get VSG, I take blood thinner for a blood clotting disorder and it was the least risky. I recovered smoothly and my first 3 months after surgery went great. From December to current I've made poor eating choices, which has nothing to do with the surgery. I have no cons of for VSG. Pro was my quick at home recovery and no need for pain meds.
Cons: Less weight loss than RNY, no malabsorption, more risk for GERD, change it will need to be reversed to RNY due to heartburn and not able to lose enough weight. 50% chance of putting Type 2 diabetes into remission vs. 80% with RNY.
PROS: No dumping, no malabsorption issues, able to take NSAIDS.
I had RNY and am happy that I did.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
Hello. I am researching weight loss surgery and I am leaning towards the VSG. What are the pros and cons of VSG from your personal perspective? Thanks.
It must be a hard situation after surgery to deal with even more pain. My mother had the same issue and the doctors told her it might take some time to go away even with the medication and constant supervision from their side. She was constantly complaining about it and I felt so bad, so I decided to take some action. After a thorough research and a few phone calls to people that know the great benefits of kratom extract and the natural painkiller abilities it has I had to find it for her. I have to say she went through it much better till she recovered.
You shouldn't look at it as something to be discouraged about. Instead, be glad you may have gotten advanced warning about something that could have caused bigger problems during surgery! If it's nothing, then you'll be good to go. But if it's NOT nothing, then count your blessings that having to get the cardiac clearance may just save your life!! You don't want to mess with heart issues...believe me!
In 2 short days you will know for sure what's going on...and hopefully it's nothing and you'll be cleared for surgery! Good luck!
