While I was given some suggested meal plans, I wasn't told to stick to a certain number of meals. Personally, I find that 5-6 meals per day (3 meals under 200 kcals each, and 2-3 snacks ~ 60 kcals each) works best for me, and my dietitian is is happy with that. One reason I prefer more meals is that each individual meal is smaller, and I don't want to get used to consuming more calories at a sitting. Another reason is that it breaks up my day nicely; I look forward to my snacks.
I suppose some people might prefer and even benefit from a rigid 3 meal-a-day schedule; no snacking allowed. But I think that's an individual thing; it would depend on what the person's triggers for eating were.
I was talking pills 2 days post op. Pain pills. Some pills shape or surface roughness affect if I can comfortably take them, or not.
Some tables are more difficult forme t take than others. Size of the tablet, plus how quickly gets desolved in my gut... For new meds I try see how well quickly it starts disintegrating. I take one pill and place it in a little bit of water and watch that. Sometimes I have to break the pills in half.
Most of the times - warm water helps dissolving the pills.
In first few years, most really large pill got stuck, or felt like they got stuck. So many years post op, that doesn't happen very often, if any.
I still personally prefer capsules. It s easier for me to swallow them. I often can take a few capsules at one time, but most large pills I have to take one at a time.

I had Roux-en-y several years ago. My MIL had gastric sleeve about 3-1/2 months ago. She said the dietician at her surgeon's office said she should be eating 3 meals a day at this point. I can't believe that the diet after sleeve is so much different than roux-en-y. I would think she should eat 6 small meals per day with emphasis on protein. I'm curious about how others are being advised after sleeve.
I am having hysterectomy 7 monnths post sleeve...very worried about weight loss stalling, but your post really helped me see the bright side.

I go to the VA for my healthcare. I haven't had any followup yet. I get 1 annual appointment in February and each time I go I get assigned a new doctor so I haven't told them about my surgery yet. I feel great, no complications. I do get lab work at the VA as well but just annually unless needed. I was self pay in mexico.
Hi there! This question is for the ladies.
Do any of you experience weight loss stalls maybe a week to a week and a half before your menstrual cycle, then gain weight during it, and start losing again after your menstrual cycle stops?
Have you noticed any type of pattern with your weight loss/stall and your period?
Hello Frank,
I got my surgery abroad as well. Who do your follow ups? Have you had any problems with your insurance in the US covering lab, etc?
I'm all about crock pot meals these days. It's a great way to meal prep because you get like a weeks worth of food out of it. It's easy to set up before work and it's done when I get home. Plus, it makes everything nice and mushy so it's easier to digest.
One of my favorites is to throw in a pork tenderloin. Pour a 20oz bottle of root beer in and set it to low for 8-10 hours. Remove the pork and shred in a 9x13 or something. Discard all the root beer. Mix your favorite BBQ sauce in with the pork. Goes great with any steamed veggies. Easy to portion out too. Crock pot chicken cooked with salsa rather than root beer is excellent too. Beef stew is also amazing. You get some carrots and onion in there. It's all good.
Love me some oatmeal too. Helps balance out things too from the protein heavy diet if you catch my drift. String cheese, yogurt, almonds, bananas, and pretty much all kinds of steamer bag veggies are some of my regulars. Oddly, I enjoy Dark chocolate now. I never did before. Its easy to have a little and be satisfied and it's not the worst thing in the world for you.
Hope this gives you some ideas.
Lean cuisine and healthy choice are great for learning how many calories you are eating. As long as you don't have to cook for a family, it is an easy way to take care of meals. If you use My Fitness Pal, you can scan the label on packages of food to get all of the nutrition information easily.
