Greetings,
So I finally had my sleeve surgery 3 weeks ago and while there has been weight loss, it hasn't really been what I expected.
I don't have unrealistic expectations, but I expected to lose more weight than if I just did it on my own without the surgery with little calorie intake and some activity like with doing Optifast prior. Or just eating healthy (which I wasn't doing) and going for a walk everyday.
Perhaps it takes a month to really get things going, but I am hardly really eating anything when compared to the 4,000 calories+ a day I was eating that got me this way. I do eat a breakfast, lunch and dinner, so I am not starving myself - but I am not yet in the solid food phase yet.
I have sort of reprogrammed my brain and I am not really craving the things now that made me obese. Now granted I know I JUST had the surgery and don't know how things will be 4 months from now, but I am just sort of wondering in the back of my mind if the surgery was really necessary in the sense that I maybe could have lost the same amount of weight if I finally just stuck to living a better life when it comes to food and my health.
I would appreciate any feedback from anyone else where weight loss started a bit slow even with having a smaller stomach now or feedback in general.
Thanks!
FW

Hi jule,
Welcome back, and congratulations on your revision!
I'm not a long-term person but wanted to let you know that the most active board on here is the RNY board. They welcome folks with any surgery type and there are a couple of sleevers who participate.
If you're interested in support, there's a pretty active daily menu thread people post to. A good number of folks there are 5+ years post surgery and give great feedback and advice.
Wishing you well!

Hi!
I had the VSG back in 2011. This forum was my savior for a number of years. Life got in the way and I was not on often. I kept the weight off for a good amount of time. 2020 rocked me. Lost a family member and it destroyed me. Gained a lot of weight back. I have recently had a revision surgery (endo-procedure / stapled from inside my stomach) I feel lost. I do not even remember most of the things I did in the beginning. Liquid diet right now.
New surgeon said this is normal. That after about 10 years your stomach goes back to regular size. I am pretty sure it was emotional eating that did it for me, but never the less, here I am. So anyone from 10+ years on here still? And if so, how are you doing?
I totally understand your concern about quitting vaping before surgery. It's great that you quit cigarettes, and it's definitely worth it to quit vaping too. Have you considered trying chewing gum or sucking on hard candy or mints as a substitute for your vape? These could help satisfy your oral fixation without leading to overeating. You could also try drinking water or herbal tea to keep your mouth occupied. I hope this helps! Oh, and by the way, I recently got a new vaporizer from https://www.vaporizerchief.com/ and it's been great! It's definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a new one.
