TheWombat, that's a great reminder, to not encourage having another serving. I used to be guilty of that when we had large family/friends bbq's, but not so much anymore since our parties are less and the kids are grown. Now I do exactly what your friend did, I place the food out and they can take what they can. I'm glad you mentioned it though, as I wouldn't want to fall back to that once she's had surgery, or even before.

Try to have a great weekend!

If you cook something or buy something, be aware that she may not be able to have more than a few bites. You may not mind having gone to all that trouble, but she may feel guilty about it. One possibility is to make something that reheats well, so she can take some home with her.

A few months after my own surgery, I was invited to dinner with some friends. I explained to them that I might only be able to eat a few bites, don't go to any trouble on my account, etc. The friend who was cooking made a lovely, simple dish. She kept the atmosphere relaxed; she simply placed the food out on the table, and didn't encourage me to "try this", or "have a little more of that". She also gave me the leftovers to take with me. I had another 3 or 4 meals out of the leftovers, and each time it was like being with my friends again!

I have gotten my share of shrugs and "never heard of that before through the years". I got my knowledge mostly from this board.

My blood tests don't indicate any particular problems with any bodily functions that may trigger issues with digestion. So, a shrug... most doctors don't seem to always know a lot about patients who have undergone the surgery and their side effects, so I thought I would reach out on this forum to see if anyone else has experienced this many years later. My doctor did say that long term VSG patients find the results did not hold as well as some other weight loss surgeries. I'm still below from when I had my surgery, but hormonal changes in the last couple of years have not made it easy to lose gained back weight or keep it down. I still can only eat small portions and remain with a healthy, balanced diet.

It is very strange. What did your doctor say?

The meats cooked are not dry, and it doesn't matter if I add any salsa or other items to moisten it even more. Veggie patties and other vegetarian options or eggs feel normal. I can also eat some select forms of steak and pork with no problems. For chicken, I lean in more on thighs, no skin and fat trimmed, but lately having trouble with that too.

Very strange and I have never heard of this happening to anyone. When I use chicken, I cook it in a pressure cooker first so it is very moist and tender. But I have never had a problem with white fish or salmon. Are you just making those foods too dry and tough?

Hello. It has been 12 years since my VSG, and recently if I try eating any sort of meat or fi**** feels like rocks and heaviness in my stomach after just a few bites, an ounce or two. I have tried various forms of preparation and the result is the same. No problems with dairy, eggs, carbs, fruits and veggies or soy/plant based products. Chicken, salmon, white fish instantly hurts. Pork, steak and ham I can handle more of. Turkey bacon, no problem. So what gives with lean and healthier proteins? Anyone else have such an experience?

Still my favorite is a bottom round roast, a package of McCormick Au Jus mix, and three or four cups of water in pressure cooker. It gives the beef a flavor like nothing else. No other brand tastes the same. The beef is extremely tender and flavorful.

White Dove,

Wow, 13 years! You must have a trunk full of tried and true recipes! I happen to have an InstaPot, so this could be a good way to go for myself as well, cutting out a lot of carbs. They are trouble for me, since I have always liked rice, potato, and pasta dishes.

Thanks so much, I'm grateful for this community!
