Breakfast Ideas?

Hi all - sorry for the radio silence, life has been ridiculous. I moved in a flurry of activity at the end of July after our house sold in 4 days with less than a month requested before settlement, then I graduated (yay!!) in December, and last weekend I both accepted a job offer and had an offer accepted on a home in a 72-hour period. I start work on Monday and we settle on the house at the end of March assuming the time of contingencies and inspections continues to go well.

And now, for the first time since VSG, I need to do something about my eating schedule. I need to leave for work at 7am and I do not want to wake up a moment earlier than I need to. Since VSG I've been pretty consistent about having a shake for breakfast but, TMI sorry not sorry, then I have to poop 30-60 minutes after drinking the shake. That's not going to work on days that I'm working, so I think I'll need to say goodbye to my beloved shakes on my work days.

I have a few options with timing - I can eat something super quick at home in the morning or I can eat something portable in the car on the way to work. I might be able to eat something at work, but I don't want to rely on that being a possibility. I'm also pretty sure that I'll be eating lunch at noon regardless, so having breakfast earlier would be better. New routine is hard for me.

Since I'd rather not have a Quest bar in the car every morning.. I'd love some suggestions for breakfasts that I can eat quickly, or eat while driving. Cold things are probably easier. I'm happy for recommendations that could be prepped and packaged in bulk on the weekend. I don't need typical breakfast food. Just something that will get me a good dose of protein early in the morning. I'm thinking that I'll do hardboiled eggs for lunches, so I will maybe avoid eggs for breakfasts.

Any ideas for me?

Gwen, so good to hear from you! I've been wondering how you are. Could you do turkey breast roll ups with laughing cow or string cheese? Greek yogurt with fruit might work too. I find the "sixty minute guideline" is fairly constant for me, protein drink, protein bar, or regular food. Best wishes on the new house and new job !

Thanks! Roll ups would definitely work - thanks for the idea.

I think that my concern with protein shakes is that I tend to need to go RIGHT NOW with slightly unpredictable timing, whereas solid food is less urgent and more predictable. :)

I am loving Folio cheese wraps from Costco. They are a calorie hit at 180. I roll either strips of turkey or chicken. Can use lunch meat if you like it. Roll it wrap in tin foil. Easy to go. My other is nonfat cottage cheese with peanut powder and a little stevia. Can indulge and add half a banana if you like them. Fits in small container and I eat it when I get to work and i am getting report. Those are my go to fast breakfast foods.

Hi Gwen,

Its nice to see you are still on the forum. Congratulations on Graduation, the new job and the new home!

Since my surgery, I've had 4 ounces of salmon for breakfast most mornings. I love it. I cook it sou vide (sealed in plastic and slow cooked in a water bath). It has a lovely texture and taste. I make 4 to 6 servings at a time, and then just divide it up and take a serving every morning. Its easy and satisfying.

best wishes,

Carol

Mmmm, I love salmon. Thanks for the suggestion! So far I've been doing chaffles and those have been great, but I'll definitely keep sous vide salmon in mind.
