Pre-op Testing For VSG in Mexico- Question??
I am planning on having gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. Alvarez at Endobariatric. Based on my medical history they do not require any testing with my PCP before heading down for surgery.
They will of course do pre-op tests the day before surgery to make sure I am clear, but to ease my mind I would like to have testing done here in the US before traveling all the way there in case my test results do not come back clear.
I was planning on seeing my doctor for a physical with bloodwork, but are there any other specific tests I should ask for? Thanks in advance!

Surgeons often ask for a sleep study (to check for sleep apnea), as well as an echocardiogram to make sure your heart is strong enough to handle the anesthesia. Your GP may be able to order these for you.
Good luck!

since you are having the sleeve have you ever had trouble with acid reflux also known as GERD?
If so , please be aware that VSG can make it worse.
Hi
I had VSG with Dr. Alvarez a few months ago. If you take any meds, take them with you. Once you are approved and the nurse coordinator sends you the packet of what to expect and what you need to do before coming. If you call her, she will answer any questions. The morning of surgery they took blood, a chest x-ray, and weight. I was nervous too but really had nothing to worry about.
My trip went very smoothly and couldn't ask for better service. I'm very happy with my experience.
I go to the VA for my healthcare. I haven't had any followup yet. I get 1 annual appointment in February and each time I go I get assigned a new doctor so I haven't told them about my surgery yet. I feel great, no complications. I do get lab work at the VA as well but just annually unless needed. I was self pay in mexico.
