If you can do this on your own and keep it off then no you don't need the surgery. Most of us can't do it on our own and need a tool to help us do what we could never do before.

I will never forget going to my first seminar and coming out and telling my husband those people are nuts, I can lose the weight on my own. Lost 60 pounds and gained 80... Make sure you are sure about the surgery. It took me another 18 months to get surgery but I was ready to be successful long term.

Let us know what you decide

Thank you, everyone. I saw my PCP yesterday who was the one to suggest this surgery to me. I first saw him at 296 pounds and I am now about 283 in about a month. While he was happy that I lost weight he basically said that he has never seen anyone be successful losing the amount of weight I need to lose given my health challenges and medications that I am on whi*****lude injections of insulin 2x per day. He said that no one realy wants to do it but that I need to draw a line in the sand. The suggestion was to give it 3 more months and if I am not down 12 pounds in 3 months ( one pound a week), then move forward with the surgery. I am diabetic and he said that there was a lot of damage going on under the surface and the surgery will help me be successful where he thinks I won't get to where I need to be without it. He was not rude or anything like that just pretty straightforward with his medical opinion. So I am leaning more towards having it now but will see how things go for the next three months.

If you have diabetes, I would strongly suggest looking into the RNY over the VSG. Most folks with diabetes experience almost immediate remission right out of surgery.
