Got my insurance approval just a few minutes ago. My surgery is next Monday! So excited! Any tips on what to expect after surgery.

There are tons of good posts on the forum about what to expect after surgery-- recovery, eating, that sort of thing. Just start paging through the archives for lots of info!

Congrats! I think it can vary a fair bit. Do you have any more specific questions about what to expect? I can tell you one thing, not feeling hungry is amazing!

Highest weight: 350, Surgery weight: 317

VSG: 1/9/19

No longer obese goal: 185, Healthy weight goal: 150

Weight loss per month: 1=22, 2=12, 3=9.5, 4=11.5, 5=8, 6=9

Yes! And even though hunger came back in a few months, it's a much gentler signal. It whispers "you need to eat something healthy" instead of "OMG you need to eat an entire package of chocolate chip cookes NOW!!!!". I can walk through a supermarket and not be distracted by the baked goods and sweets. It's a great feeling.

I can't wait to be able to do that. Not craving junk/fast food will be the biggest victory of my life. I have already started to tell myself no when I see sweets or fast food because sometimes I eat it because it is there and really do not want it.

Has your taste buds changed since surgery?

Sadly, it's entirely likely that you will still crave junk food - the surgery is on your stomach, not your brain :(

Yes, I have so many questions. So far how has your relationship with food changed?

Does it generally feel easier to stick to a healthy eating lifestyle?

How has you relationship with food changed since surgery? Do you crave the unhealthy food you were eating before surgery?

I understand you on the hunger thing one of the reasons my diets always failed I would get really hungry and begin to crave fast food, sweets, and anything else that got me to my current weight.

I am about four months out and I really have not felt hungry once! I don't know how typical this is. Sometimes, people talk about head hunger, but I don't think I have had that yet, nor have I had any cravings. I was worried that I might have trouble emotionally not being able to eat what I wanted, but that was ok, too. It is very hard to explain. Food is really mostly a chore now and I don't even mind that I feel that way.

Not being hungry does make it much easier to stick to a healthier lifestyle. I eat healthy food because it sounds as appealing as unhealthy food, maybe even more so. When I choose a food, I am thinking only about protein and whether I am able to tolerate it.

The only thing I truly enjoy eating is yogurt. I think this will eventually change and I will enjoy more foods, but for now I am enjoying it.

Yes it helped so much! I?m looking forward to relearning how to eat, building a healthier diet, and learning my new stomach/body after surgery! This is the reset I need to help me undo the bad food behaviors I have and stop yo-yoing once and for all!

I read this and my first thought was "who enjoys eating yogurt?!" Hehe. It's one of those foods I want to like, but I have never been able to form a yogurt habit, no matter how often I try. SIGH.
