All Dried Out

Since my surgery I have felt very dry. My mouth feels like a desert even though I am drinking more than enough water (over 100oz), my hands and eyes are also dry. Is this normal? I don't feel bad, just not crazy about being so dry. Is this just my body's way of adjusting after weight loss?

Burning fat requires extra water, just as a fire requires oxygen. It could be you need more fluid. I feel like crap if I don't get 150 ounces.

Dietary fat helps with skin, hair, etc. Too little for too long can effect those things.

I find my skin dries out the most at this time of year because of the weather .

Interesting. Before my surgery I was drinking over 200oz a day. I just drink a lot of water. I am probably getting around 150 to 200 now.

In that case, you're probably going to need more than the usually recommended amount. The way my surgeon explained it to me, the stomach holds some reserve water for the body. After the VSG, the size of the stomach is drastically reduced, so your water reserve is also reduced. Thus, our fluid needs increase after surgery.

In addition to hydration, fat is also an important part of a healthy diet. Some of us go so low fat that it can definitely impact our skin.
