Hi guys!

I'm scheduled for VSG on February 5th and I just wanted to introduce myself! Today is day 5 of my 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet. I am finding it harder than I had expected to be just on liquids, especially when my family is home for meals!! Looking forward to the surgery, but also quite nervous!

Julie,

Welcome.. I had my surgery 10/5/2018. You'll do fine with the liquids, but yes, it's a surprise to our system. Just hold fast so your liver is in great shape for surgery. The surgery is, for most of us, pretty easy. Just remember if you have pain to walk walk walk -- and tell someone. You'll do well!

Welcome, and congratulations on your upcoming surgery date! Yes, the liquid diet is hard, that is for sure. I found that it was easier after about day 3. You are doing great, especially when you have to cook for others or see them eating. As Gwen mentioned, keep extra busy. I learned to crochet during my liquid diet. Keeping my hands and mind busy was key! Hang in there, you got this!

Hi Julie,

i had my surgery on 1-16-19. Yes the pre op and now post op have been hard for me too. Keep positive and think of finally getting rid of the excess pounds. My surgeon told me it's forced starvation, what he should have said it's a way to reach Ketosis so the fat you have stored will burn instead of the calories you eat.

try to do this for your liver and even if no one told you, you had fatty liver, try to reduce the fat in that liver. On the surgical table, I was 1% of patients my surgeon encountered who had full cirrhosis of the liver with no prior knowledge or detection prior to surgery.

the operation saved my life, because if continued undetected, I would have ended with liver failure.

I was just like you second guessing, scared, it's a huge step and I'm sure you did not make the decision lightly. Hold the course you set and remember it's not easy, it will take hard work. Hold to the fact it's a few weeks from your life that will help you add years to your life.

I can't wait to add food to the liquids. I went in believing that I wouldn't want food after.. that was a wrong assumption for me, I wanted food, but have come to understand the physical hunger and head hunger are 2 different things.

i wish you the absolute best and keep posting !

Sorry, forgot to add, you might want to ask your Dr. If you can add an additional shake, mine was good with it, and it might help through.

I also am struggling with being on the liquid diet post-op! I'm hungry, and I feel nauseous when I'm not getting my protein in or eating a balanced soup throughout the day.
