Was curious if anyone else had to take collagen? Did you feel it did anything?

What doctor is telling you to take collagen?

I add 2T of a high quality collagen supplement to my morning protein shake and have for years. Not sure it makes any sort of difference, but now it's habit.

We use collagen (from Costco, don't know the brand) as a delicious, unflavored protein powder. We add a scoop to many soups, veggies, shakes, etc. We also add a teaspoon to our grandbaby's foods sometimes as she is 2 1/5 and will not eat meat. We don't remember the name because we kept half and gave the remainder in the container to our son to give the baby at their house.

Collagen should not be used as a replacement for whey protein as it's incomplete and not very bioavailable to the body.

We add it to other proteins to bump up the protein value.

Adding a protein source that's not bioavailable won't do much of anything to increase the protein value of good proteins - why not just use additional whey, egg, or casein protein? As those are the most bioavailable proteins?

Some whey proteins irritate my stomach, and i thought casein is a whey protein. I dont know for sure. I already eat an egg almost daily. Actually as time goes by i am able to eat meats more and more.

I make bone broth and drink it for its many benefits, including collagen.

Most of its "many benefits" are scientifically unfounded.

"Bone broth does contain collagen and bone marrow but the claim that consuming these will directly benefit human bones and joints is unfounded. When humans consume collagen, it will be broken down to individual amino acids, minerals, etc. These amino acids and minerals may then act like any amino acid or mineral consumed, but there is no evidence of an advantage to consuming amino acids and minerals from bone broth as opposed to other foods."
