no restriction 2 weeks out....is this normal?

I had VSG Nov 6th. I am able to get my water and protein in well. I lost 10 pounds at my 1 week check up but have gained 4 of that back. Is that normal? I am also hungry and am able to get 3 protein shakes, 11oz of soup and all my water in a day. Is that normal?

It's not abnormal. Many people don't feel any sense of restriction while on liquids, and then it kicks in once you get to solid foods.

The hunger is probably due to dehydration or acid at this point - are you taking a PPI?

Thanks for the response. I am taking an acid reducing pill and I feel I get in plenty of water. 60oz or more a day. Just wonder why I can drink so much and not really feel full. Maybe the hungry is head hungry and not real hunger.

The nerves in your stomach have all been cut, so you won't feel any restriction until they grow back. That could take a few weeks to a month or two.

Liquids like shakes and soup will go right through your sleeve, they're not supposed to fill you up or leave you feeling restriction.

Hunger is totally normal, but it's important to figure out if it's physical or emotional ("head hunger").

Thank you for the information!! I was starting to freak myself out because I see so many on here who say they can barely get anything down and I'm over here having no troubles at all.

What about weight loss? When I went for my 1 week I was down 10 and she told me I could add cream soups. Now that I have done that, I am up 4 pounds. Is that normal?

Remember, only the people who complain are going to post about their trouble. Nobody posts to say "hey, everything is just peachy!" So you may only see the info from people having a hard time :)

Fluctuation is absolutely going to happen. Soup has sodium in it, which may cause you to hold on to water. But generally your body is going through a LOT right now, so don't stress about it too much. Stick to the plan, and you'll get there!

You said you're consuming all your water, plus 3 protein shakes and 11oz of soup. How many calories a day are you consuming? Are you measuring and tracking every bite/drink you consume? It could be entirely possible that the addition of cream soups has upped your calories considerably. And I second what Sparklekitty said about increased sodium and water retention.

at this point nothing to really measure....its all liquid. But I did notice the yummy soup I purchased was from Panera Bread Soup lines and the calories are HIGH. So I am backing off that. I got the Oh Yes sipping soups and they are between 130 to 150 in calories. My protein shakes are 160. I could easily be taking in 700 to 1000 calories. It that too much?

In my opinion, that is a whole lot. Most people 2 weeks out are barely getting 400 calories per day, and usually no more than 800 per day for the duration of their weight loss period, and only increase from that once they hit maintenance. You won't be able to take in that many calories once you start solid proteins, but that could be why you added some weight.

As for measuring...you measure how many ounces you're drinking, how many ounces your protein shakes are, how many ounces your soups are, and your total calories, protein, carbs, etc. Are you tracking all of that as well? If not, that is a habit you should get into now to carry into when you start solid foods, and keep doing. It's the best way to keep yourself honest and not let the calories creep back in, thus pounds creeping back on. I still weigh, measure, and track every morsel and drop that goes into my mouth.
