VSG in 3 days, any advice for what to take to the hospital?
I am having the VSG on 10/29, very nervous! Any advice on what to take with me to the hospital for my stay? and things to buy for post-op? Any advice is appreciated.
Hello,
I'm new here, too. I just had my VSG on Monday, 10/22 at 7:30am. I brought all sorts of things to the hospital, but only used a few items. I was released (because I wanted to be) the next day around noon. So I didn't stay long.
What was in my backpack:
- change of clothes, undies, bra
- tooth brush, paste
- soap, shampoo, conditioner
- blistex
- lotion
- full makeup bag
- All paperwork from dr office
- wipes
- crocs
- pillow
- Portable phone charger
- Long charger cable
- towel
- extra bag for dirty clothes
- socks
- magazines
What I used:
- long charger cable
- blistex
- pillow
THAT'S it I over packed, but better safe than sorry, I guess! The hospital provided anti-slip socks that were cozy, toothbrush, paste, soap, etc. BEST WISHES TO YOU!
Yes! Definitely will be adding ear plugs to my list, and a fan. I'll keep it in the car and try to get one from the hospital. If not, then I'll have a back up. Lol
Thank you so much for your reply! That is very helpful!! I didn't think about taking a pillow and phone charger. :)
I had my sleeve on 10/2. I actually looked for a list similar to ones posted here on what to bring. I literally did not use anything I brought, except my cellphone. My stay was only a bit more than 24 hours and I spent that time sleeping, walking or sipping water.
You may want something for dry mouth/lips though.
I used chapstick in the hospital, a long charging cord and an external battery pack.. and a pillow for the drive home. The hospital provided everything else.

I second the phone charger and if you can find a long phone charger cord mine is a 6 foot extension here are a couple of other things I took and used:
- chapstick
- Biotene to rinse my dry mouth several times
- An airport/travel donut pillow
- Glasses case
- Extra undies
- Comfy lounge pants (I took my Lula Roe)
- Deodorant
I also took a hair brush hair pins and makeup but that's just a personal preference and I did use them, and it made me feel better to get up and rinse my mouth brush my teeth wash my face and brush my hair and feel a little bit more human.
Good luck to you!
