Not sure if I should get the sleeve

So I've been to a consult and a seminar. I'm just still not sure if I should get it. I'm really concerned about post op and intra op complications.

Can someone share their expierence whether positive or negative?

Thanks!

Hi ð?'?

I got the sleeve last week and up until about 1 1/2 months before I wasn't completely mentally committed to the plan. I figured I could go through the required 6 months of nutrition counseling, psych evaluation, etc, and as I learned more about the process there was any reason I couldn't call a halt to surgery if I didn't want to move forward or even delay 6 months if I thought, hey, this nutrition approach is working better than my last attempts, maybe I can do it without surgery.

I did decide to go through with it. For me the immediate post op pain was more than I anticipated (I've had two years of gall bladder attacks and laparoscopic cholecystectomy, acute pancreatitis from an allergic reaction, steroid injections in the bottom of my feet... those are my personal barometers for pain). I'm feeling optimistic about the future.

Maybe it would help to discuss specific worries with the surgeon/ a counselor/ the nutritionist?

I'm afraid of the gerd surgery and having to convert to a bypass

If you have ANY history of gerd, you should get RNY. Why risk a revision?

If you have no history, maybe you'll get gerd, maybe you wont, but the sleeve is at least a viable choice.

For me, the sleeve has been nothing but positive. I lost the weight relatively quickly (I was highly motivated) and have had little trouble, for the most part, staying at a reasonable weight. It takes a while but you get used to the smaller portions (not from a fullness aspect, but from a length of time eating/wrapping your head around only eating such a small portion), but you do.

That being said - I recommend thinking and researching long and hard before you take action. You cannot sew back in your stomach. Once it's gone, it's gone and this is for the rest of your life. You also need to be committed to eating a more healthy lifestyle. If you're expecting to eat and have the weight miraculously melt off because you had surgery, that's not how it works.

Good luck with your decision!
