Hey VSGERS,

It's my first day post op and I don't know why I've done this to myself. I could really use some encouragement. I have extreme gas pain in my chest which is not going away any suggestions?

Thanks

You need to get walking to clear the gas out of your system! Even if it's just slow, shuffling steps around the house, or walking to your mailbox and back, it will help quite a bit.

Recovery is HARD! You've had major surgery and your guts have been rearranged. Be patient with yourself and take it slow. Make sure to take any pain meds you've been prescribed, and sip water constantly; dehydration will only make you feel worse.

Hang in there! You can do it!

Well, you've done it and there's no turning back now. Move, sip and get your attitude adjusted. You have a long road ahead of you and you want to make the most of what they call the "honeymoon" phase. This is a life changing surgery - and the day will come when you will think it was the best thing you ever did for yourself... honestly! I only wish I could have had it when I was 20. Miraculous and nothing less - make the most of it.

For the next few weeks, you'll have all the negatives of major surgery, and none of the positives of weight loss. It's not a lot of fun.

After that, you'll be mostly healed and recovered, aside from still needing an occaisional nap. And by then the weight will be coming off, and youll feel healthier and happier.

Hang in there.

Thanks guys!

I'm still in quite a bit of pain from the gas even though I'm walking around. It makes it quite hard to swallow my liquids too. But I'm glad to see that you guys have been successful it really makes me hopeful.

the gas should be gone in a couple of days. I also found a heating pad very helpful in managing the gas pains.

The first week is so tough, but hang in there. It gets better and you have a wonderful life waiting ahead of you. Throughout the first 2 months after surgery I had moments where I regretted surgery and felt deeply miserable. But I felt better as time went on and now after several more months I am so happy I had surgery. I believe it saved my life and certainly made life more of an adventure.

Focus on hydration and taking slow walks as much as possible. Sip and walk, sip and walk, sip and walk. And take it one day at a time.

Walk, walk, and walk some more! If you dont want to walk, try and do things you can tolerate that require standing for periods of time.
