Surgery in one week! So Anxious
Hi everyone,
I am so glad I found this group, i have been reading a lot of the posts. Thank you for sharing.
I have my surgery 9/18/2018 and I get more and more nervous about my first surgery.
Any helpful tips, i feel i am expecting horrible things.
Thanks
Congratulations on your surgery date!!
My only advice is to pack light comfy clothes, slip on shoes (so you don't have to bend), and your own toiletries.
Don't be afraid. You'll be fine. This surgery is very routine and safe, and you won't regret it!
Wishing you the best possible outcome!
It's very normal to feel nervous before any surgery, much less one that also includes major lifestyle changes. I found recovery tough but very manageable and now at 11 months out I feel fantastic and so grateful! Just take it all step by step.
Before surgery I took before pictures and wrote myself a letter about why I chose to have surgery. I also recommend completing The Beck Diet Solution workbook. The mind stuff is much harder than the physical stuff!
Good luck!
Jess

Hello,
Thank you for these tips, I will work on doing the pictures and a letter tonight.
You will be ok. When I got nervous about whether I was making the right decision, I thought about what being obese the rest of my life would feel like.
Surgical complication rate is on par with that of a knee replacement surgery. It will be scary and uncomfortable at first. Then all of that will be in the rear view mirror. I had my VSG in June, and all the rough stuff is already starting to fade.
I still feel nervous in the sense that I know that doing this surgery was a big deal and a "last stand" that will only work as long as I'm actively making sure it does. That's daunting. But again, less daunting than a life of being low energy and uncomfortable.

My surgery is just two days after yours. I too am nervous, but I am trying to think about how glad I will be that I did this at this time next year.
We are going to be fine :)
I will be thinking of you next Tuesday and sending you good (and calming) thoughts!

My surgery is on the 26th and I think my husband is more nervous than I am. That's not to say I am not nervous, but I know this is the right decision for me and I feel as if it is the right decision for you. We made the decision to have the VSG because of health reasons and/or self-esteem. Whatever your reason it will be for the betterment of you life. Think about what's after the surgery and how well you will feel. That is what keeps me from going bananas about the whole surgery.
For me, VSG ended up being the easiest surgery I've ever had. It wasn't like not having surgery but I expected it to be much more painful/difficult than it actually ended up. And the results are so worth it regardless!
