I am 18 months out from VSG and still losing so much hair. I take my Biotin, multivitamins, protein but the hair loss just isn't slowing down. I can definitely see my scalp. Short of adding some hair fibers, has anyone had any luck with the Minoxydil or anything like that?

At 18 months, this seems unusual. Have you spoken with your medical team?

The hair fibers are a quick and easy fix. Often it helps to get the scalp to a lower PH balance by shampooing your hair and then rinsing with a vinegar rinse.

What worked for me was a zinc losenge called "cold eze" available in wal mart in cold/vitamin losenge drop section... to begin use one losenge every day... for 2-3 days.. then every second or third day( at least part of a losenge.)...If it starts to taste terrible just take it out and try it in a day or two. that is sign yor zinc levels are high enough. Hair loss should slow to normal within 3 days. This was the fix my surgeons office gave us when we had iniial surgery 23 years ago!. it works for me, still. Nutritional deficinecy caused issues do not respond to drug tratment til the cause is found.

Have you had your blood work done recently? You should do it every 6 months. If you're experiencing a deficiency that's causing hair loss, this would find it.

As others said - losing hair at 18 months post op is not notnor. It can indicate vitamins or minerals deficiencies. Or hormonal imbalances. Thyroid, iron, vitamins B's, zinc, etc etc... I hope you can see a doc and find out what is going on.

Telogen effluvium starts 3-5 months post op, last a few months and stops with brand new dandelion sprouts all over. Your experience is NOT normal. You need to see a doc and get a full nutritional blood panel.

Thank you for the feedback. Still losing hair, it has slacked up a lot but... All the labs were EXCELLENT. It is a pain though!

If they pulled any less than 14 vials of blood, the tests are incomplete. VSG docs often skip many of them. There may be something telling in what is missing.
