Hello everyone!! Happy to join. Im 5 days post op vsg. It's getting easier to get liquids down but also kinda scary. I want to make sure I'm doing everything right. I'm able to sip crystal light and protein powder 5 oz each sitting. Takes me about 15 min. Also I can lick the spoon of a 5 oz cup of tomoto soup until it's gone. Is this ok or should I slow down.

My little menu and guidebook said that at 5 days, I?d most likely have a capacity of about 2oz. So I just tried to stick to that. Liquids go through your sleeve faster, so maybe it?s within norms that you can drink as much as you can. When you move to solids, you?ll probably feel more restriction. That all said, you?re healing and your nerves might not be rewired yet, ie, you might not feel full even if you are. So maybe stick to your plan and try to consume conservatively.

bear of luck and congratulations!

It sounds like youre doing fine. I could drink ok after just a few days.

Don't try to push things when it comes to food though. Food is much different from fluids.

You have a lot of swelling after surgery that makes it hard to get liquids down. It took me about a week to be able to do eight ounces of liquid. Some people heal quicker or more slowly. You will not hurt yourself with liquids, as long as you are not feeling pain when you drink.

The only time I feel discomfort are if the sips was too big. I think I'm finally getting it. I'm supposed to sip on water and or crystal light combo all day. While soup , yogurt, ect are 20 per sitting?

Sorry I meant 2 oz per sitting.

I'm 4 days post op and I've been having nothing but popsicle ( actual brand sugar free) and counts as your daily fluid intake. Introducing protein shake 2 week post op. So far, I've been hydrated, no sleeve issues, still restricted, no leakage, energized and helps with gas. Only 15 calories which we burn calories just by sitting, less than 2g carbs, which if you're walking and moving, it's fine. And lost about 9 pounds, in 4 days?. Definitely, satisfied. Just something about the cold that sits right in with my sleeve.

I never had an issue with liquids post-op, which was awesome. When I hit solid foods though? BAM. Major restriction.
