I've met all my pre-surgery insurance requirements. Now my weight loss clinic will be submitting my case to my insurance for approval.

For those who have had VSG using insurance, how long did your insurance approval take?

The weight loss clinic told me 2 weeks, but I've heard from some patients that their approval came much quicker. My insurance is through Blue Cross/Blue Shield (GA), if that makes a difference.

My approval took 2 1/2 weeks from when the Dr. submitted it and mine was via UnitedHealthcare dual plan in Florida. I first went to the see the Surgeon Feb. 6th (2018) did all my pre-required stuff and had my surgery June 25th (2018) so I felt the whole thing went very fast, I've heard of many who it took longer and longer to get the approval but your surgeon team typically has a good idea on how long.

Mine took 24 hours, so I think it's a bit like "how long is a piece of string"?

Fingers crossed for a quick approval!

Part of this is dependent on If your doctor included all necessary information for review and how busy the utilization management department is.

Mine took about a week. At work, I have had approvals in 24 hours to three weeks.

I'm from NJ with Horizon NJ. 29 yrs old, highest weight of 257, with sleep apnea. If you began your process, then your surgeon has a pretty good idea that you'll get approved already. Trust, they won't start you it if you weren't qualified due to strict insurance requirements. Took 3 months to do all the appts including Nutrionist visits usually takes 2-3 business after ALL YOUR REQUIRED APPTS are done. They say 2 weeks to be on a safe side, but normally, it's 2-3 days after you informed them your done w. The appts. You should have a surgery date already, which will be used for the insurance claim to cover the surgery. If you have meet all the requirements your doc said, put in your mind APPROVED. Trust me, I've search and search prior to this. I made a big fish out of something that was already set in stone for me! FYI, after your surgery, first 2 days are the WORST!!! I had it done 5 days ago, Popsicle sugar free WILL become YOUR sleeves best friend!!! Trust in the popsicle haha!!good luck!
