Negative Nancies - venting
on 8/16/18 3:59 pm - Amarillo, TX
I rarely post anything about my weight loss journey on my facebook account. Today I was so excited about fitting in a size 18 that I made a post. It was the first in over a month or two. I was and AM proud of myself.
Most of my friends on this profile is very supportive but one friend keeps posting that body positivity is more important than losing weight(and much more things). She only posts these things on the rare occasion I post about WLS progress. I've known her for 25+ years.
I'm not letting this diminish my shine. I've worked hard for this and I am HEALTHIER! I may look better too but I no longer have to take 5 damn shots a day! That my friends is a big ol win!
It still does irk me a bit. I knew you'd guys would understand the annoyance level I experienced AND the major eye roll.

So annoying! I know many people like that unfortunately. Don't let it bring you down. You should be very proud of yourself and those people just don't understand us or what we go through because if they did they would be supportive.
This is why I love the fact that you can delete any comments made on your Facebook wall. Delete the negative comments every time!! I keep hoping one day they'll give us the option to turn off commenting on a post, like you can do if you have a "Page." One day maybe... :)
P.S. Great job on the size 18, YOU GO GIRL!!

Awesome job on the size 18! Also, I don't understand. Is she one of those healthy at any size people, or.. what? That's annoying.
Nice job Melody. Body positivity is important at any weight and so is health. We all need to get our bodies and health in a good place so we CAN feel positive about them. IMHO.

I would reply every time to those posts something like " I am very positive about my body and also positive about the FIVE medications I have been able to stop taking sonce o had surgery and started having a lasting weight loss."
One of the main reasons I went forward with this surgery is for my two boys.
Obesity runs in my family. Both my brother and my sister are both overweight. It is genetic. My two boys have unfortunately inherited that trait and thus they have to work extra hard to lose the weight. I wanted to lead them by example. They have already embraced eating healthier because of it.
I tell them all the time that is not only about looking better. It is about being healthier and that a natural outcome of eating healthier and exercising is losing the weight and looking better.
Not sure what your friend is trying to get across to you. Body positivity is important but that really comes as a natural result of losing the weight.

There's a way to select an audience for your FB post. Next time, post to "Friends except for..(negative Nancy).
It's pretty cruddy to say that stuff to a person who wants to lose weight and is happy when they do it. I really don't understand why they are doing that...but I'm guessing it's 100% about them and 0% about you.
