I know it seems difficult to get your fluids in those first few days after surgery, but it will get better. Don't sacrifice sleep, it's important for your health and healing too.

You might want to try setting the alarm on your phone, or using a timer, to remind you to drink a few sips every 15 minutes. Aim to drink one cup an hour, that would equal 8 cups (or 64oz) over the course of 8 hours. Track your intake.

Make your water as appealing to drink as possible. That could mean zero calorie flavour drops, lots of ice, warm herbal tea, iced herbal tea, broth. Sugar-free freezies were a huge to help to me those first few days; sucking and crunching on the freezies was satisfying and made it easier to get liquids in.

And as you know, the fluids used to make your protein shakes count, too.

I was frustrated by all the sipping and drinking at first, it's difficult when we can't take big gulps. But it really does get easier. Just keep at it.

Use liquid proteins.. I have posted before warm liquids move down quicker than cold, it increases motility.when there is edema and narrow passages this really helps.

Without the proper rest you will not loose as well. Rest is almost as important as your intake.

.also motility is increased as you move around more.. get up and walk around the room every 15 min... for sets fo 4 several times a day... walk to check the mail? walk the small dog or cat? just move...

try adding protein supplement to sugar free hot cocoa, it was my favorite way to increase protein and liquids at same time. Hope yo find something you can use effectively. It will get easier hang in there.

Caffeine will not stretch your sleeve. Liquids will not either. Overeating solid foods will.
