While most of us eat low carb while losing weight that doesn't necessarily make it Keto as Grim said. We have higher protein needs, while Keto is moderate protein. When I tried to do true Keto the amount of fat made me nauseous. Most Keto recipes are great for us, but calories still count.

I feel like any low-carb diet that is popular is going to get a lot of attention especially in the WLS community and Keto is the one everyone's doing/talking about now.

about 12-14 years ago I lost a ton of weight on the Atkins diet which was the low carb diet of it's time.
I never counted calories when I was on Atkins, only carbs, and without surgery I lost 100lbs in less than 6 months (of course I was in my 20's and also had a job where I was on my feet all day).

I still think that Atkins or even the South Beach diet is more applicable to the lifestyle I'm living since my RNY.

High protein, low carb, not worrying too much about fat (It helps keep me regular anyway) but this time watching my calories as well, so trying to choose less fatty cuts of meat or at least limiting them to a few times a week instead of all the time...substituting turkey for beef or pork, etc.

I also gave myself gall stones on that diet so that's another reason I can't do true keto- the super high fat foods just don't agree with me anymore since I had my gallbladder removed.
