Whatcha Eating Today, VSGers? Saturday, 7/7/18
Thank you!
my surgeon doesn't want me having anything sugar free :O! So I want to find ways to make my own popsicles with less sugar than these natural otter-pops. But to be quite truthful the cold sometimes hurts my stomach? definitely gives me more burping which is uncomfortable. Warm liquids like my broth go down the best :)
Because he does not like Artificial sweeteners, which most sugar free items are made from. He said if I could find sugar free pops made from stevia, he would prefer it, but in his words "you're eating so little in the beginning it doesn't even matter. Stay close to the ground. Don't have anything artificial. Stay away from artificial colors, too."
Wow.
Without an actual research-backed reason, I'd just roll my eyes internally and use artificial sweeteners. "I don't like artificial sweeteners" doesn't really count as a good reason to avoid them.

Really, Gwen? Artificial sweeteners are BAD. It is an ARTIFICIAL ingredient. It is not naturally occurring. As an individual who follows a non-GMO, close to the ground, less processed the better lifestyle, I actually was overjoyed that he was against them. Artificial sweeteners can cause overloads of sugar receptors and create greater issues in controlling sugar cravings and sugar intake. There are dozens of medical journals discrediting artificial sweeteners.
Also, if a physician, an individual who is trained in making people's lives better and is successful at it, why would you go against what they say?
If an individual wants to avoid artificial sweeteners, that's one thing, but from a medical professional I expect evidence.
Medical professionals, trained though they are, don't know everything and are still subject to their own bias.

I watched one grandmother lose her legs and the other go blind. They had diabetes in the days when there were no artificial sweeteners.
i am so grateful for products like Splenda. If you want natural buy Whey Low. Sugar makes a huge difference. Sugar and wheat flour are natural poisons just like hemlock and poison mushrooms

Excuse me if I'm skeptical, but a "close to the ground" diet would never lead to the operating table.

LOL, I know, but a calorie surplus is still a calorie surplus! Regardless of eating cleanly I still ate far too much. A nice pile of organic mashed potatoes is still lots of calories. Eating a giant salad along with a couple-oz-too-big portion of meat and two veg, is still a lot of calories. My surgeon and I just jived on having the same mentality of making things from scratch (staying close to the ground) and buying the good stuff. The surgery now is going to help me consume less, and for someone who had a never ending, pretty anger enduring hunger, I'm happy with the surgery, and probably needed it for awhile too.
Wow I'm very surprised! My surgeon was adamant no sugar at all if possible especially in the beginning. I personally don't like the taste of artificial sweeteners but i suck it up because real sugar is a carb and your body stores it as fat. It's crazy how different doctors are but I hope it works out for you.
