3 weeks post op and STALLING

Had VSG on 6/11 and was consistently losing 1-2lbs a day. For the last 4 days I have only lost .9lb! This is super discouraging. Any advice? Also, has anyone else gone for 4+ days without a bowel movement?

3 week stall is apparently very common. I had one as have many others. Lots of posts in the forums on this site regarding this. Type in 3 week stall in search and you will see. Stay the course, it is frustrating but temporary. Good luck!

We are only a week apart! (6/5 for me). At 3 weeks, I did not stall, but I slowed. It was discouraging because I was religiously on plan AND had racked up some serious walking mileage that week. Luckily, I knew from posters here and other sites that this is not uncommon. I just try to remind myself that sometimes the path is gonna be straight and fast, and sometimes it will be a bit windy and slower, but as long as I stay on in, I'm still moving forward.

And yes on your second question. Tough adjustment for me, because I was a daily goer before this process. I haven't solved it, yet. I'm able to take more liquid now, as well as some fiber, so hopefully i will creep toward my normal. If you search "constipation" on this forum, you will find lots of info and advice from people at all different stages.

Totally normal to stall at 3 weeks. Remember, you didn't gain the weight in a day, it'll take time to lose it too. It's easier said than done, but have patience. If you stick to the plan, you'll lose the weight.

As for bowel movements, many of us use Miralax semi-regularly for regularity. High protein diets can encourage constipation.

Sounds about right. Stalls and constipation seem to common topics around here. I was horribly constipated. I think I went 7 or 8 days. Milk of mag is good for the severe constipation. Something milder like miralax or Metamucil may be a a good thing to add to your daily regimen to keep you regular (of course with surgeon approval). It gets better as you are aloud to incorporate fruit and veggies. I think in the past 4 mnths I've taken 1/2 dose of milk of mag maybe twice, otherwise fairly regular.

If you search week 3 Stall you will find many posts on it. I stalled after one week and it lasted 3 ½ weeks. I was sure I would be a failure. Stick with it be consistent and you will succeed

I've only nearly hit my two week mark (Two weeks on 7/9) but I'm starting to notice it slow, at least yesterday it did when I hopped on the scale and it wasn't 1-2lbs but more like .6lbs but I know that's my own fault for not moving enough the last couple days due to way too much work to catch up on, and being crap at time management and carving out time for it.

As far as the BM goes, I know I didn't have one for 5 days post surgery but was told that was normal (which makes sense, no real intake other than the clear fluids so nothing to really form stool). If you're starting to feel a little stopped up or worried though, and are eating regular food at this point, I know it seems like a lot of people on the forums take miralax. However, remember you're still probably not intaking that much so you can't expect your bowel movements to have the same regularity as they did pre-op. With the stomach being significantly smaller, and your intake being significantly less than normal, you're bound to not produce as much waste...at least that's how it'd seem to me. I could be wrong!

My stall came around 3-4 weeks and I've been in it for about 10 days now. Keep at it!!

We get very spoiled in the first few weeks after surgery, losing a large amount of weight very quickly. After the first three or four weeks, it slows down and stays there.

After the initial post-op loss, you can expect to lose 1 - 2lb per week, slow and steady until goal.

Surgery isn't magic, it takes patience and hard work. Hang in there and keep it up!
