Hi All,

I'm 9 months post op VSG and down 83 pounds so far. Lately I've noticed when I sleep I get pains in my shoulders and hips from laying on them where the fat used to be. Is this normal I understand the extra padding is gone anyone have any fixes for this cuz it disturbs sleep and hurts?

Thank you

Sadly my best advice, having dealt with this myself, is to a) give it time and b) learn to sleep on your back.

Building muscle will also help.

A new mattress or mattress topper could help provide better cushioning.

I haven't reached that stage myself, so I can't confirm that a mattress topper will help this problem. However, it's a relatively inexpensive way to upgrade your bed. I suggest you look for a "memory foam" mattress topper that is at least 1.5 inches thick. It will distribute your weight more evenly so that it's not concentrated in a few tender spots.

Some of this gets better with time as your body gets accustomed to your new lower weight.
