Had My VSG with complications

Good Morning! Thought I'd do an update. I had my VSG last Monday (6/25) I've had to mentally process some issues the Doc found. He got in there and I had a mess needing cleaned up (scar tissue) but worse still he found my diaphragm had a tear he had to sew that up. It seems I can breathe easier now so that was a good find and fix.

He also found I have cirrhosis of my liver, had we not found it at this stage I would have been dead within 5-years. I thought he was way off base since I am not a drinker I mean I have one or two pretty drinks we make for a holiday but that is it, it seems there are many things that can cause it, obesity is becoming the number 1 and that is my issue. Being able to lose wt. at this stage should make things OK So, deciding to have the VSG at this time was in many more ways than known, a life-saver for me and now I have even more drive to get this weight off of me!

They took all my diabetes medication away and so far my levels are doing OK, a bit high but in a totally safe range. They also cut one AM heart medication that had a water drug with it away and that is going OK too after the first day or so I have no more swelling and my BP is running just fine, of course I still take the other heart/BP medication. It's kind of strange to see so little in my daily pill kit lol.

I'm working on a little dizziness and pain but so far so good! Oh and I have the chills lol.

My goodness! Sounds like you have a good surgeon.

Thankfully, the liver is, I believe, the only internal organ that can grow cells and regenerate, so instead of being dead in 5 years, you will basically have a brand-new liver!

I get you about having less pills in the pill box! I've been off both of my high-blood pressure meds since the day before surgery and my bp has been perfect since.
I check it at least once a day at home to make sure it's staying that way.

Your future is exciting!

I am so glad that your VSG revealed so much about your life and your future if things had not changed. This is a wonderful chance to do it all right. It sounds like your medical team is keeping a close watch on you and your med changes. The dizziness could be a little dehydration, make sure to keep your fluids above 64oz. You are going to do amazing, please stick around and maybe join in on the VSG menu board:-)

Thank you. Yes, when he told me the finds and he looked surprised also - it really hit me that I had made the right choice in picking to do this VSG. I know before the surgery I was thinking I sure hope this is the right choice, afterwards when he filled me in on the finds I was - thank God I made this choice! I am finding it hard to take in enough water/fluids but I'm working on it. Any thing with water in it counts right?

I counted protein shakes, popsicles and all liquids without caffeine. Drinking will get a lot easier, hang in there!

Good for you! It sounds like things are starting to look positive. I dealt with dizziness for a couple of months after surgery, but it went away to the point where it rarely - very rarely - happens anymore. Lots of liquids help with that, and for me, more salt. Talk to the doc about that part before you do it though.

I'm glad your surgeon found these things and patched you up. Hoping you are on the mend now.
