Weight not moving
Hi everyone my name is Maria. On Thursday I had my surgery and am working on recovering as I am pretty sore and can't get up and down yet without it hurting is this normal and how long until it subsides? In addition the scale has not moved my surgery weight was 257 and my highest was 271 so I lost some weight on the preop but now the scale hasn't budged 5 days out any ideas as to why? Today I weighed myself in the morning and I weigh 258 so I went up a pound I am worried I am doing something wrong but I have been on liquids clear and have been trying to even get that down, feeling defeated at the moment.
Many people actually gain weight after surgery due to all the fluids injected during the procedure. I was advised to not weigh myself until 2 weeks post-op. So, on the weight thing, you're normal. If the number is going to bother you, try to not weigh until 2 weeks post-op. Or, keep weighing daily, but figure out how to not let the number defeat you - I use Trendweight for this. There's a link below in my signature.
As for the liquids, hydration is your number 1 job right now - act accordingly :) Some find that setting a timer for every 15 minutes helps remind them to sip. Some find that different liquids or temperatures can help. Try hot tea, or warm broth, or room temperature water, or cold crystal light, etc. Experiment until you figure out what you can drink and then drink like your life depends on it.

I wish surgeons would warn you about the temporary weight gain after surgery due to IV fluids! I knew about it, but I've heard from lots of people who didn't and were horrified to see their weight go up!
You're lucky your weight only went up by a pound after surgery. Mine went up by about 3 lbs. I don't think I got back to my true weight until about 8 days after surgery.

it is normal to have pain and pain on moving after having major surgery, which you had.
it could last for several weeks. Take things easy and take your pain meds as needed

I was up 10 lbs after surgery. After weighing a couple days in a row, I just had my husband hide my scale. I'm trusting the process...if I follow my surgeon and dietitian's directions, it will happen.
I would recommend you stay off the scale, except maybe once a week, or even better, once a month. Trust the process, not the scale.
Are you wearing a belly band? That really helped me the first few days. Best thing you can do to heal is walk-walk-walk.
