Is anyone having an issue with losing hair after VGS surgery? My hair is falling out and I don't know how to stop it. Any ideas from anyone?

Make sure you're getting your protein, vitamins, and liquids. It'll pass.

Having been on the forums for over 4 years, seeing this question get asked multiple times a week, and studying this topic in Anatomy class, I'm pretty sure I am :)

This video is from a chemist (who had VSG) explaining why hair falls out. I found it very interesting.

What Gwen said. I was not compliant with the vitamins till I found the gummy ones; the others made me bilious.

I lost a lot of hair; I cut it quite short (its' curly) and its growing back. I'm doing my vitamins, biotin and 110 grams of protein a day, which doesn't leave a lot of room for other food, but hair is regrowing

Your hair loss right now has absolutely nothing to do with vitamins or protein. Look up a condition called telogen effluvium to learn all about it. In a nutshell, your body is reacting to the trauma of the surgery and your hair growth cycle has rebooted. There are thousands of brand new hair follicles trying to emerge right now, and in order to do so, they must push out the hairs currently residing, so your shedding is making way for new healthier hair.

So, no special shampoo will treat or prevent telogen effluvium and the vitamins and protein will benefit the new hairs about to emerge, but will cast no effect on the hairs being pushed out.

This condition comes 3-5 months post-op, and lasts about 3 months or so. It should be slowing down for you very soon. My recommendation is a shorter cut with layers to blend in that new growth. Those with long, straight hair tend to look like a chia pet when these hairs are growing in. Plus...the makeover makes you feel good.
