I don't care for nitrates in my food either...I buy most of my deli type meats at Trader Joe's and a local co-op. And the sodium...I'm not at all concerned about that. Especially since I no longer have high-blood pressure! That is the most exciting part of this journey so far!

That's so awesome about your BP! They made me do a pre op consultation and stress test with a cardiologist prior to surgery (no heart issues..just something they require). The doc said he'd seen amazing results in his WLS patients vis a vis blood pressure and other issues. I wish more people who are struggling would consider the surgery.

I love Trader Joe's! Something they have that you might like: Fresh Mozarella cheese sticks. They are packaged like string cheese. So good and nice and soft. I like it because there's no waste (given our small portions).

Having WLS enables us to eat a higher quality of meat, because our total intake is so much less. So getting good quality meats is a good call. as is avoiding any thing that will make you hungry..that includes high carb counts. Keeping a record of things that do and do not satisfy, or are hard to digest, can help greatly with the times you do eat out. I will often order a side veggie, and Hubby orders a steak,( w/ full meal) slices me off a couple ounces .

Deli meats have been a staple for me. Early out, they were a critical part of my diet. They are more easily digestible for those early stages. And I've seen just as many studies that debunk the carcinogenic nature of those foods.

Agree 100%. Deli meat is a staple for me. It's quick, satisfying and easily portable. I never have an issue with sodium levels and my team is perfectly fine with it.

I eat deli food and i still need to add more sodium to my diet.

Just because it is deli- it does not mean it have to be "junk food " deli. People makes assumptions all the time.

Same here. I've eaten a tractor-trailer full of deli meat since surgery.

In spite of that, my doctor had me increase sodium even more.

I actually think it's a lot of food for 2 weeks post op. Particularly since the cut nerves haven't healed and you really can't feel if you're full. As an example, I'm 4 years post op. The past few weeks, I haven't had access to a refrigerator at work so I've been bringing food in an insulated bag. I've been bringing 2 -2.5 oz of deli meat and a cheese stick (I actually bring 2 but can't eat both). I split the cheese stick in half, split the meat in half and make roll ups. I added 4 almonds for texture. That amount of food left me satisfied, and is significantly less than the amount of food pictured. I really had no room for, or need to add any veggies and doing so would have made me uncomfortably full. Eating much more than that (and I understand that the OP, didn't but just ate half) at 2 weeks post op would have been near impossible, or would have scared the crap out of me, since I knew I couldn't feel when I was full. (and with the caveat that I was still on full liquids, just starting puree under my plan)

Just my point of view.

Yes, I did eat just half of it. So 3/4 ounce of ham and a quarter ounce of cream cheese.

And I did feel full. That's why I only ate half. I was full.

I guess it did look like a lot of food in the picture...but that's a small ****tail fork and a baby plate. LOL

I can't wait until I can have nuts. That's a great idea to put them in a roll-up!

Nuts are not a great choice during the weight loss phase, far too high in calories for the amount of protein you get.
