How much weightloss is typical with vertical sleeve (VSG)?

How much can I lose if I follow all of the doctor's orders? I had a lapband removed Oct 2017 and am getting a sleeve next month. I weigh 188 lbs and wonder if it is worth it. Thanks for any help!

Everyone is different and it really depends on how dedicated you are to the post-op life. If your goal weight is say 130 and you follow the plan to a T I don't see any problems with you reaching it.

My only question is why did you have your band removed? I'm asking because I have noticed that some folks that go from band to sleeve end up revising to the bypass due to GERD/heartburn/reflux.

I had to have it removed because it slipped. My doctor usually requires at least a BMI of 31 or 32 for any surgery but agreed to do a sleeve. I don't weigh enough to have a bypass. He doesn't do lap bands due to all the problems with them. Because of my age. I have to get some extra tests before the final approval.

One thing I've seen over the years is people that have a lower BMI to begin with (like you), generally get closer to a proper BMI weight according to the chart.

I went from a 79 to a 33 BMI, just didn't maintain it :(

My weight loss is in my signature. I was considered a "lightweight".

Wow! You are awesome! Did you have GERD problems?

I had some minor GERD pre-op and had a hiatal hernia fixed during surgery so far no GERD post-op (I never had a lapband btw).

I have read that VSG patients can expect to lost 60% of their excess weight (vs 70% for bypass). Of course, this is an average, so individual results would vary.

If you are willing to follow the plan 100% then there is no reason that you couldn't reach your weight goal with the Vsg tool. People starting out with lower BMIs tend to end up at lower weights, but people having revision surgery as yours would be considered tend to lose less. I think it will balance out for you.

you can actually lose as much as you want to lose, if you eat high protein and very low carb. If you don't drink with meals or drink liquid calories besides protein shakes.

Many surgeons pist op diet plans are terrible for weight loss post WLS, encouraging oatmeal, bread, etc. these kinds of items cause hunger and promote gain, stalls, and maintenance, before all the excess weight is lost.

The NUTS at many surgeons try to treat ppl who have had WLS like normal ppl and we are no like normal ppl. What works for normal ppl doesn't work for us.

We have seen ppl on this site los less than 20 lads and bell over 200 pounds. It is all about what and how much you choose to put in your mouth.
