Day 4 - Nausea, constipation & trying to stay hydrated .
I had VSG on May 1st. The entire procedure took about 3 hrs., due to heavy scare tissue.
I also stayed over an extra day due to vomiting and dry heaves. Doctors resolved the vomiting issues, all labs came back fine and I was sent home.
At home I am attempting to down fluids and protein shakes but the liquid pain medication and liquid stool softener makes me nauseated. ?Therefore I've decided to eliminate the pain meds. I am no longer taking them. However, I still fell pretty crappy. Any suggestions? Is my case the norm??
I had my VSG on 4/27 and boy oh boy do I feel your pain. I was in the hospital 4 nights do to severe dry heaving. I stopped the pain meds in the hospital because I was only sore and I suspected they aided in my stomach problems.
We are on opposite sides of the spectrum here, as I cannot stop going! (Only when I drink my protein) all other liquids are fine, even coffee! I wish I had more to offer in the way of advice. The one thing I do know is one persons normal, is another's abnormal. If you're able, walk around as much as you can to get things moving.
Surgery date 4/27/18 !!!
Nausea is often due to dehydration and constipation can be from narcotics, dehydration, and high protein. Ask your doc if you can take Miralax?
Otherwise, sip as much as possible. You need to get in at least 64 ounces of fluid a day and more is better. If you can't tolerate water, experiment with other liquids. Some people find crystal light works better. Or hot tea, or warm chicken broth, or room temperature water. Experiment until you figure out what works for you and keep hydrated, that's your number one job right now.

To quote Yoda, this is one of those things where "Do or do not, there is no try." Staying hydrated is not an optional action. :)

I'm trying as in my body continues to reject Anny fluids. I can't keep anything down.
if you can't keep even liquids down, you might have developed a stricture, which is scar tissue building up and no allowing any thing to pass.
I suggest you contact your surgeon
