Oh yeah, we're men. That means we usually lose weight way better than women because of muscle mass and stuff. I am in maintenance now and eating about 2500 calories a day. That varies from person to person. Only YOU can determine what is right for you. Weigh and measure your food, and weigh and measure yourself. It works.

The nerves in your stomach have been cut, so you wouldn't feel restriction for quite a bit until those grow back. Some people take a few weeks, others take a few months. This is why it is CRUCIAL to weigh and measure your food. At almost 5 years out, 4oz of hamburger would nearly make me sick.

Here is a good vid on how our WLS evolves, and how over time we will be able to eat larger meals, so this is normal. Note that he makes no distinction between the VSG and RNY in this regard, as this is common to both as the anatomy adapts to the changes imposed upon it by the surgery, and our own adaptation in eating habits.

I like this doc in that he is one of the few that discusses this aspect of WLS, and offers a means of countering it with his dietary advice. You may or may not like or agree with his approach, but it does have merit.

Thank you everyone for the replies.

So I am coming up on 4 months on 5/12.

Are others able to eat 4 ounces of protein at this point? I ate 4 ounces of chicken breast for dinner last night and felt satisfied, not stuffed.

I am flip-flopping between thinking I am eating too much and thinking I have gotten better at gauging portion control and am stopping myself before getting sick.

The truth is likely that I am substantially healed up and can tolerate more, and am learning to control better. However, I am curious if anyone else was able to handle a 5 ounces meal (4 ounces of which were lean protein) at 3.5 months? I am down 76 pounds now.

Thanks,

T
