7 Months Post-Op: Slower Weight Loss??

Hi All!

I'm officially 7 months post-op and down 114lbs which is great! However I'm noticing that my weight loss has really slowed down to about 6lbs last month. Is this normal with how much weight I have left to lose (Approx 110lbs)? My bariatric team is happy but I'm a bit concerned.

I'm setting some goals this week to hopefully reinforce some good habits which are:

At least 100oz of water/day
No more than 900 cal/day (Was up around 1000-1100)
Walking at least 30min/day

I'm really hoping to see a 10lb loss in April as I have set some lofty goals for where I want to be around my wedding in October.

Does anyone else have any tips or tricks to share? What are your goals this week?

From what I've read, it is normal for weight loss to slow after the first few months and our caloric needs drop. However I think you're right, 1100 calories is probably a bit too much during the weight loss phase. I hope your changes pay off!

How much protein are you getting in each day?

This IS normal, yes. Weight loss slows as time goes on because you're getting less of a caloric deficit. Stick to your plan, you'll reach your goal. Those of us with more to lose often take longer to reach goal that those who have less to lose.

I figured it was normal for things to slow down but it's frustrating for sure. I really want to be in the low 200's for my wedding. Here's hoping I get there!

That's about the amount of protein I'm getting daily (I'm just at 6 months);I met goal very quickly, and as I bumped up my carbs a bit to help with the calories increasing, I didn't gain, just held within about a lb. That part was encouraging. BUT, I got into the habit of microwave Jolly Time 100 popcorn once a day; I stopped it to see what would happen (it was not outside my carb range or calories), and sure enough, I dropped 2 lbs.

I think different things effect each of us differently; I see my doctor the 16th and I'll ask the nutritionist if that's going to be a thing for me. Ideally (ridiculously) I'd like to be 3 lbs under goal so I have some wiggle room.

In the past, I've not monitored my weight especially if I thought I was going to have gained. SO I'm weighing every day to keep track of what changes. I am post-menopausal (TMI), so not so much monthly fluctuation.

I'll be cheering you on to hit your goal for your wedding! I'm sure you'll make it!

After six months, most people do good to lose five pounds a month. You will have to cut calories and exercise to keep up your loss.

Everybody will have some stalls along the way, especially it seems after the 6 month mark from my experience.

I was about 7 months when I had my first stall. I had lost 200 lbs first 6 months then nothing at all for like 5 weeks. (Funny) This will be contrary to what a lot of people will tell you on this board. But when I talked to my surgeon. I told him I was only eating 11-1200 calories a day, but I was working with a personal trainer at the time 2 - 3 X a week. He told me up my intake to 2000 calories a day, my body was in survival mode or something and my metabolism was shut down. It worked, I started losing weight again and lost another 100 lbs in 5 months. This being my only notable stall my first year after surgery.

Maybe this could be your issue, it was mine at that time.

you must have great metabolism. I maintain on 1500-1700 kcal, and my weight starts heading north if I go above that range too many days in a row. There are a lot of people on here who maintain on 1000 or 1200 kcal/day - so I'm one of the luckier ones. You are VERY lucky.

I'm 5 months post op and have lost 70 lbs so far. But now I notice my weight is starting to slow down. My doctor and nutritionist told your weight will slow down and it will take at least 12 to 18 months to fully lose all your weight. I have 60 more lbs to go. I feel so much better And can actually walk 4 miles a day now with our taking a break of huffing and puffing.

Some months are higher than others. My month's 7 and 8 were better than month 6. It's not over til it's over!
