Liz, I don't understand how many ounces of food I should eat at each meal. Most people say what they are eating, but not how much. I am three weeks post op and not ready to eat everything yet -- just wanted to prepare. What is normal in the weight loss stage?

I worked up to 3-4 ounces once I left liquids.

I'm eating 4ounces comfortably and feel like I could eat twice that much. I don't understand. I thought if I ate more than 4ounces that it would hurt. Not so. Now it appears to be only willpower that controls me.

At three weeks out, this is common - your nerves were severed during surgery which means you can't trust anything your stomach is telling you. Right now, your stomach is a lying liar that lies. Most of us don't start to feel restriction until a) we're fully healed - normally around 6 weeks and b) we're on solid foods.

This is why it's so very important to measure everything early on. You can easily overeat and damage your stomach without even realizing it.

Thank you. I didn't understand that part. Never heard that before or it just didn't click with me. I really appreciate your responsiveness.

At 3 weeks I was only eating 2 ounces at most per my surgeons instructions. As Gwen said, your nerves are healing so you can't feel it if you have eaten too much. I can eat 3-5 ounces now at 2 years out depending on how much of it is dense protein (the more dense protein the smaller the amount). I weigh everything unless I'm out to eat. But I can estimate well enough for that now.
