so I've been on optifast now for 20 days and the pee stocks still show no ketones even though I've lost 13 pounds. When can I expect keyosis to kick in?

Those pee sticks have been shown to be unreliable so don't put too much stock in them.

I'm pushing seven years post-op and thankfully it still hasn't kicked in.

Seriously though, your initial loss tends to be your short term reserves of glycogen (stored carbohydrates) and once those are burned off, you will start to work on your fat stores (what some will refer to as being in "fat burning mode" though that has nothing to do with what kind of diet one is on - just the caloric deficit.

Also seriously - between the dubious quality of the sticks and the dubious value of tracking ketones, it's not something that needs to be worried about - people have been successfully losing weight with their WLS long before anyone came up with the idea of using keto sticks. Concentrate on keeping your calories down and your protein and water up and you will be fine without the added distraction.

Usually under 14 days. How many net carbs and total carbs are you consuming per day? If you don't know start logging! Also, did you feel like garbage (hungry, angry, tired, mentally foggy) and then suddenly NOT feel like garbage?
