Weightloss Requirement Before Surgery
I have a question. for VSG surgery I am required to do 6 appointments with my nutritionist and 1 with a psych. However, i haven't been told how much I am supposed to lose, and this is my 3rd appointment this month. Just weighing me and giving me advice and helping on my eating habits. I am just wondering if any of you had the same journey? Not told a specific amount of weight to lose? I have United Healthcare Community Plan btw. From NJ. I just don't want to be caught by surprise if anything.
You should ask. There are a billion plans. Some require a specific number of pounds list. Some require a certain percentage of weight lost. Some require all the meetings, and no weight list, but none gained, either.
Get your requirements in writing.

I had United Healthcare through my company and had the 6 month requirement as well. I was never told that I had to lose a certain amount, just that I had to have a 6 month supervised weight loss period (though I did lose quite a bit of weight during it). To be sure, ask your counselor at UHC (I assume you have to work with someone there like I did?).

Hey! Sounds like our journeys are on very similar timelines! I too am on my 3rd month with the dietitian, 3 more to go! The very first appointment I had was with my surgeon and she said it'd be great if I could lose 20 lbs on my own, but it seemed as though like it was more of a suggestion and not a HAVE to. The dietitian hasn't mentioned that number since, but I am down 8 lbs so maybe that's why? I'm sure if there were any requirements that were a must they would have told you right away!
