Smoothies????
I like them, but my NUT says absolutely none due to high calories and carbs. The only smoothie like drink NUT allows is protein shake blended with ice. You can get creative with a few approved additives that are typically sugar free or high in protein, like decaf instant coffee, PB2 or peanut butter, vanilla or almond extracts for flavor, and more.

I have provided a link to a website that will help you with food choices. She has lots of recipes to flavor your protein shakes. Smoothies are not a good choice. They are usually made with fruit and the body sees fruit as sugar. Smoothies will stop your weight loss in it's tracks.

So, this morning's breakfast was iced coffee, a scoop of caramel protein powder, a squirt of sugar free chocolate syrup and ice in a blender - with 2 tables spoons of oikos triple zero vanilla - welcome to my 122 Calorie, 25G protein Frappucino.
I make "smoothies" all the time - they are called breakfast protein shakes. I never use more than 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of frozen fruit (in lieu of ice), with either Fairlife Skim milk or coconut milk (unsweetened) and protein powder.
I use a variety of sugar free Torani coffee house syrups for flavoring as well.
The key is that they are a meal. They are not a snack. As a snack, it's not a good idea - especially when you are on a limited calorie diet.
FWIW, I had my Frap this morning between 7-8 and at 11:30 got a bit hungry - I had an Oikos Triple Zero yogurt as a snack. I'll have lunch between 2-3 most likely because I won't be able to eat dinner until 10 tonight.
The only time I have one as a snack is if I have worked out really hard (as in burned more than 600 calories in a workout) and then I do it to aid muscle repair.

For a while after surgery, protein shakes will help you meet your necessary protein intake, with a minimum of calories. Beyond that, it's a horrible idea to drink any calories at all.
WLS is designed to work best with dense protein. You will feel satisfied for longer and eat less that way. You could drink calories all day long, and still want more.
Smoothies aren't healthy. They have gotten a lot of hype from fad diets that make them seem like healthy choices, but they arent. Not for us, or anyone.

Grim - to each his own. I'm 20 months out but the way my schedule works and the way my body works, I cannot eat a real breakfast and get out of the house to work on my two busy days each week - Monday and Wednesday. I have to get myself, my husband and my 15 year old out of the house by 7:15 am and I don't get home those nights until almost 10. I don't have a fridge at work, so I have to pack a lunch, so my morning effort goes to that. I can't eat until I've had a cup of coffee because I have never been a morning person, so I make the shake and put it in the car and drink it on the way to work. My shakes never exceed 300 calories. Given that I eat about 1200 a day, that's an average breakfast.
My team is fine with it and I think it depends on what you do and how you make them. Sure, I've seen 700 calories smoothies with almost no protein, but most of us here know better than that. But we each have to do what works. For me, down about 110 pounds and closing in on 28% bodyfat - it works. On days I fence (like today) I burn almost 1,000 calories so you can bet I have a protein shake to help with muscle recovery when I get home at 10 pm. I find that with a shake that has 2 tablespoons of Oikos Triple Zero, it gives the texture and density I need to keep from feeling hungry and I get to lunch just fine.

I haven't had a smoothie since before surgery a year ago. They get really calorie heavy. Could try a protein shake with greek yogurt for a smoothie meal though! Add in some ice and go to town. Chike makes a mocha coffee protein shake and I love blending it with ice. Sooo good.
