15 Months Postop VSG - Diagnosed w/ ADD and Binge eating Disorder Prescribed Vyvanse...
Today I was diagnosed with adult ADD and binge eating disorder. I am 15 months postop and have known for years that I had ADD just had insurance issues. Today I was officially diagnosed and he also diagnosed me with binge eating disorder. Duh, of course I have BED.
I am relieved to finally have a diagnosis of the ADD, but scared of the medication. Does anyone mind sharing with me their vyvanse postop? Is it helping?
I appreciate any help and insights. Just to give everyone a picture. My highest recorded weight was 186, I was 181.2 when I decided to sleeve, 172.2 day of surgery and i currently sit at 124. My lowest was 120.2.
I feel like I have a handle on the BED, but i know it's connected to the ADD. The ADD is not at all under control and I desperately need help with it. Just don't want the medication to open a bed of worms and screw up my progress. Ya know?
Hi! I was diagnosed with BED on whatever date it says in my signature - after VSG. I didn't binge for the first year or so after my VSG but then my dad's health declined and, when he died, I started binging in full force. I was diagnosed with BED and started Vyvanse which has been AMAZING. I was worried about taking it too, but it's super.
I started at 30mg/day but found that I'd get really distractible by the end of the day, so we tried 40mg/day and that's worked very well for me. I make sure to take it 12 hours before I want to go to sleep, for me that means I take it around 10am.
I'm not sure how the medication would screw up your progress? What are you worried about with it?
I am so grateful for Vyvanse and I notice a difference on days I don't take it immediately. It's pretty amazing how quickly it works and how much better I like my behavior when I'm on it.

Oh my goodness! thank you so much for your response. I feel much better about it now. My fear is that I'm not really having issues with BED now and I was worried if I took it and then for some reason stopped taking it I would be triggered to binge. I'm very messed up right now with my ADD so I am hopeful to have relief from that brain fog. Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving me some clarity on this. I am about to pick up my script this afternoon so tomorrow will be my first day. I will give you an update tomorrow. Thanks!
Hm. I think if you were worried about this when/if you stopped taking it, that maybe you could taper the dosage? But I don't know since I figure I"ll be taking it for the rest of my life!
I have a friend who takes Vyvanse for her ADD and has had really good success with it.
I sincerely hope it helps you out. For me, it really helps me to be the Gwen I want to be, instead of Gwen who binge ate and thought about food Every Single Moment of Every Single Day.

I wanted to update you Gwen. I have been on 50mg for a week now. It has helped my ADD because I have had a better and focused work week, but I have a feeling it's slightly too strong since I still have fogginess and I think the fogginess now is from the fact that the dosage is high. I am going to ask him for a lower dose. It has helped me significantly to not be completely consumed with eating and other obsessive compulsive behaviors. Such a relief. I will keep you posted after I speak with him again.
Wonderful! I'm really glad that it has been beneficial so far! Definitely tell your doc about how you're feeling so that dosage can be adjusted appropriately :)

I didn't read replies. I'm sorry if this has been said. But I am not allowed to be on Vyvanse because it only comes in extended release. Not compatible with a sleeve or bypass. Adderall comes in quick release .I've been on adderall extended release for years. Currently off of my ADD meds as I'm figuring out new meds post op.
