VSG is a process

Hi All,

I got my VSG in 2012. I lost 60lbs right away and then something happened and I stopped losing weight. All I can remember is all of a sudden hating my protein shakes. Then I just must have given up because I gained 40lbs right back in 2013. Ever since then I have been bouncing around 270. My goal weight is 140. I still have a long way to go.

I am back to say that I am not giving up. I still have good restriction in my stomach. I am on a good food plan, with plenty of protein. I don't want to think that it is too late for me. I heard all the stories of people who lost weight fast and get to goal in a year. I wanted that to be me, but I was a slow loser and that discouraged me.

So here in 2018, six years later, I am eating my protein, drinking my water, and trying to take the stairs more often. Maybe this will be my year.

It's definitely not too late! Get back to the basics of your plan and you'll be fine. And work on the head stuff that got you derailed in the first place :)

You'll get lots of dietary advice, which is awesome, but I'm going to give you some social advice.

Disappearing for years at a time is not your friend. The most successful people are the ones who come here day after day. They participate in the "What are you eating" thread, they give and get support.

This is a difficult process this far out, but it's not impossible. There are a lot of caring, knowledgeable people here. Avail yourself of this awesome resource to get back on track and start losing again.

I'm here every day. I have almost 2,000 consecutive days on MyFitnessPal. Just showing up is a great start, and a huge help.

Looking through your posting history, it seems like you've tried to get back on track a number of times. Have you tried to figure out what keeps derailing you in the first place?

I don't know what program you used before you had the VSG, but check to see if they have an "in-house" social worker or therapist that you can work with to get around the mental issues. Yes, overeating and "comfort eating" are issues we need to address. I just had an appointment yesterday because I am craving foods that I had no problem giving up before surgery. We worked on issues around what society implies, that once your workday is ended, you can sit and snack. Sometimes within an hour of eating a "healthy meal"! If the program doesn't have someone, approach your local hospital. They will know of someone whom you can contact about therapy.

Don't give up! Staying active on the site will help your motivation. Talk to us. We are also going through the issues involved with the program.
