I take a Bariatric specific vitamin called Optisource 4x daily. It is chewable. It is supossed to be all inclusive. Was recommended in my pre-surgical classes. Seemed to price out the same as buying everything separately. I had to change the timing of the first vitamin. Used to take in the morning. My first set of lab work came back with a TSH of 18. Mine is supposed to be 0.1. According to my endocrine Dr. the Vitamin was interfering with the absorption of my synthroid. I now take the first one at noon instead. Now my TSH is down to 0.7 so the Dr must have found the cause. Be aware Synthroid users. Pill caddy is the way to go. That way you can easily see if you have forgotten one.

I take:
Morning: 1 generic 65 mg iron supplement.

Evening: Vitamin D3, Folic acid, 1 Trader Joe's Chewable High Potency Multi-Vitamin

2x week: sublingual B12

Approx 5 days a month: evening liquid iron supplement

I don't take calcium supplements as I don't believe they are either safe or effective (MY choice, I am not advocating anyone else doing what I do). Instead I do regular, high impact exercise to help maintain my bone density/strength.

I also do not take and have never take bariatric specialty vitamins, as they are too heavy in carbs and calories and too expensive for me.

I'm almost five years post op, continue to have my labs drawn regularly, and have always received excellent results. Iron is the one thing I always have to work hard at in order to maintain good levels, but that was true before surgery too. They are more consistently good now than they were before in fact!

Are you also having DEXA scans regularly to monitor your bone density? (This is important for all of us!)
